    Jefferson was a deist, so the Creator is most likely a generalized higher power or something inherent to nature. It can mean whatever to each individual, really.

    I think your last sentence is the most true. To completely disagree with Hobo and the person who also said that it was a Judeo-Christian notion, the important thing from the document is to establish that literally these things are a given for humanity. The nature of God should not be debated when considering the purpose of the document itself was to unite the colonies and give them justification for rebelling (while also aligning the said colonies to that central Lockean principle).
