Well you should. It makes no sense to worry about the scary but low-risk headlines in the media, instead of the things that are somewhat likely to harm you. It's the irrational equivalent of driving instead of flying across country, because you're worried about terrorism (but not auto crashes).

I agree, there is no need to worry. I'm not going to die if I get the flu, nor am I going to die if I get H1N1. I'm a healthy person. 7% of people who get H1N1 die. That's comparable to the normal flu. Why should I be panicked?

The yearly flu vaccine is determined by a team of immunologists who work for the UN or the CDC. They pick a few strains that are likely to surface that year based on initial data. Other than that, there is no rhyme or reason. You could get the shot and still get the flu... in fact, in a related article I posted to DP, there is research surfacing which shows that people who get the flu vaccine are at least two times more susceptible to flu viruses.

So yeah, it is largely a waste of time, and I'd rather not waste my time by having a chemical solution injected into my body that was formulated only a couple of months ago, that does who knows what.

Which is a study that can lead to bad conclusions because it is the people who are in fact more susceptible to the flu that typically get the flu shot. It should come as no surprise that these people would get the flu more often.

If that's your attitude, that's fine. To each his own. I'm just pointing out that worrying about Guillain-Barré syndrome or other complications with the vaccine itself is a completely irrational reason not to get it.

Personally I don't see why one wouldn't get it, if they didn't have any allergies to shots. It takes ten minutes and it can prevent a week of illness. Granted, I probably won't die from swine flu if I get it, but I'd rather not be ill either. "I'm a healthy person" is a similarly irrational reason not to get the vaccine IMO. If you get swine flu, chances are you're going to be sick for at least a few days no matter how strong your immune system is.

No the government has no right to interfere in the medical decisions of other people. I would only get the shot if my doctor told me that I need it.

Never. That would be the perfect excuse for the government to wipe people out.

Don't get me wrong, I respect it if people want to get the vaccine. In a way, people getting the vaccine allows for others to be able to not get it, since the protected segment of society is the buffer for the unprotected. But even within that rationale, the flu is something that mutates so the buffer is never complete in the first place.

If you are someone with a healthy lifestyle, contracting the flu will be a normal experience in illness.

You are poorly educated on the topic, it would appear. "Mandatory Vaccinations" can be circumvented with a simple doctor's note. Therefore, you do not HAVE to be immunized.
