    Re: Is The Economy Improving

My thoughts are that any so called 'improvement' resulting from the infusion of Federal money, from either the Bush or Obama administration, will be a short term shot artificial boost, not any sort of long term solution.

The government is not living within its means and that does not bode well for the nation.

I think it's pretty rare for our government to ever live within its means.

You can only do that so long before the house of cards collapses.

I'm no economist but it seems to me living beyond our means is more of national tradition than a short term exception.

There is no effort by anyone to earnestly move us out of the collapse. Pretty much, we've waited it out. All the "stimulus" didn't do much. Even cash for clunkers...most people were going to buy a new car. It didn't really encourage a lot of new people. Same with the home business. 8 grand per, but most of those people were in the market for a new house. What you wanted was to get people out of apartments/rent and into a house/mortgage.

And ain't no one, Obama included, looking at putting in the regulations and safe falls to prevent this again. Basically corporations learned they can be as reckless as possible and if they break the system, the tax payers will bail them out. So yeah, thanks Obama.

Absolutely not, the government is spending money like it's going out of style and the idea of a "jobless recovery" is asinine. Until we have a massive influx of new jobs that can fuel a true economic recovery, all we're doing is a bunch of hand waving and misdirection.

Yes, and it's got little to do with the president(Yet I said that he does deserve some credit) and more with the natural flow of the financial system.

That doesn't change anything. We started doing it seriously after WWII when we became a world power by default, we had never been attacked and we had an incredible infrastructure that we built to fight the war. After the war, lots of people had lots of money and we spent like mad. The problem is, when the situation changed, when we were no long the undisputed #1 nation, we still kept spending like drunken sailors. It's one thing to spend extra when times are good, it's another to expect everyone to keep spending like there's no tomorrow when times are bad and that's exactly what we've been doing for years. In fact, in the past 40 years, we've built our entire national economy on people spending more than they had and now it's coming home to roost.

Any recovery we have that doesn't include a permanent reduction in our overspending is only putting off the inevitable.

    Re: Is The Economy Improving

Yes it is slowly improving. Nothing substantial but at least it's not getting worse as of a few months ago. Companies are reinvesting and houses are being bought. Now we just need companies to get their budgets approved for 2010 and they can start hiring again.

Obama did nothing to take credit for an economic upturn.
