And why is that so far fetched? Do you think genetics are perfect and that we all come out exactly how we are supposed to be? Something tells me you haven't met anybody who is transgendered because you are generalizing a lot here.

Again normal perfectly sane people do not feel or think that they are the wrong gender or the wrong species. So your argument that you need a degree to make this assumptions is a load of crap.It is common sense that these people are not sane.

There is no such thing as reverse racism or reverse bigotry. It is either or it is not, not reverse.

Bigotry can be defined as narrow mindedness, bias or the intolerance of others beliefs. So yes this definition most certainly applies to the pro-homosexual crowd.

It's only blatantly obvious to you and your ilk. And yes, psychological disorders are complex enough that one would need expertise in order to make an accurate assessment as to whether transgendered people are mentally ill or not. And your comparison to the earth orbiting the sun is absurd. Why do we know this stuff? Because we learned it from the words of experts. It's not just common sense. If it was common sense people wouldn't have once thought that the Earth was the center of the universe.

I suppose so, but we let people do all kinds of stuff to their bodies as it is now. You can pierce pretty much anything now. You can tat pretty much anything. You can buy hormones that cause all kinds of changes. You can go to a plastic surgeon and turn yourself into whatever you want (there's a comedian know for that, he once turned his face into a blue elephant, I kid you not). So, it's kind of like, is this really anything drastically different?

The government shouldn't encourage or discourage anything. It's best for them to stay neutral on personal matters.

Many people would see it as immoral, but it is not the government's job to dictate what the individual can do with their body. As long as it isn't hurting anyone other then the person getting the operation (which it isn't) it should stay legal.

So you are admitting that your ilk lacks any common sense or any ability to make a sound judgment? It is mighty big of you to admit that your mistakes and flaws.

Not all mental disorders are complex enough to need expertise to make the sound judgment that someone is insane. People who think they are the wrong gender is known as gender identity disorder, insane is defined as mentally disordered. Even without a dictionary one can tell that since it is not normal to go around thinking you are the wrong gender or wrong species then it is a mental disorder/insanity.

Of course it should be legal. It's a medical procedure which has been proven to effectively treat a medical condition (Gender Dysphoria). We might as well ban insulin or anti-depressants.
 
Of course it should be legal, and society should accept the new sex of the operated (by not discriminating in employment, recognizing the new sex as the person's legal sex etc.). Sex change does no harm to anyone - on the opposite it allows people to physically become the gender they mentally are and thus helps people. The immoral thing to do about sex change would thus be to ban it or try to prevent it.

Of course people should not just be able to come in from the street and get a sex change. As it is a non-reversible procedure they should receive competent councelling so that the doctors will know that the person is mentally stable enough to make the choice and so that the person will know what the consequences will be.

I think it is naive to say it is a purely victimless act (think in the case of established families, it's quite emotional for some people), but why on earth would you want it to be illegal? If people really desire the change, feel that their identity would be best created in such a way, they should be allowed to do so.

There is absolutely no reasonable argument in favor of it... Its not natural like some claim homosexuality is, its not reasonable, and until recently was not possible.

When a person undergoes a sex change it does open up more questions for society to work out. For example:

-- Can a man who undergoes a change to female, be allowed to compete as a women in sports? (Now play/compete in womens golf, tennis, swimming, etc).

-- Does a woman who undergoes a change to male, give up her/his right to claim to being a minority under some "equal opportunity laws" when it comes to govt contracts for minority businesses?

Yeah, while we are at it, we might as well make tattoos, scarification and other deliberate mutilations like ear and tongue piercings legal too. I see your point now. It is just sooooo unreasonable for our government to let people make their own decisions about their own bodies.:roll:

But changing sex is something completely different from doing a piercing or tattoo.

Legal, but with the caveat that not one dime of taxpayer money goes to pay for it.

They are involved in regulating the health care industry and what doctors are allowed. Like stated above, doctors unless saving a patients life because of injury should not be allowed to remove penises/vaginas.
