I don't see where exactly you are confused. There should not be a drug test for jobs where there aren't any safety issues (unless the employer suspects a specific person), because that would be retarded, offensive to the employees, and a waste of corporate money. That does not mean that they don't have the "right" to do so, and since I never argued otherwise I suggest you cease and desist with the strawmen attacks.

Now do you actually have anything to say about the subject at hand?

Really? I thought that "stress reliever number one" was to fire all your employees. LOL.

George Orwell couldn't imagine having to prove that you aren't doing anything illegal to get hired

Orwell must not have had a very functional imagination.

Oh nose, I've been given a Cease and Desist order.

I'm not confused at all. I just find it rather amusing and certainly would not want someone working for our company that would be so easily offended and so whiny.

Do you understand that "ZOMG TEH PRIVAT COMPANYS CAN DO WHAT THEY WANT LOL!!!" is not actually a rational argument as to whether or not they *should* do certain things?

And I don't think it's being "easily offended" if an employer presumes his employees are using drugs. Unless, of course, he has some reason for that belief. Most people would be pissed off by those kind of accusations, and rightly so.

    Re: Drug Test

Drug tests are an invasion of privacy and should be illegal.
What an employee does in his or her own home that has no effect on their job is absolutely none of their employer's business.

I fully believe an employer has the right to terminate any employee using drugs at work or at such a time when they might possibly effect their work performance.
But drug tests are not used for that. They are used to determine drug use within a 30 day period.

Alcohol is considerably worse than some "drugs". A drug test makes even less sense than testing an employee to see if they have had a sip of alcohol in the last 30 days, after work, and in the privacy of their home.

But employees would choose to subject themselves to that drug test in order to keep their job. It's not really an invasion of privacy.

The real invasion of privacy is the government forcing us to tell them about our income and other information, but that's for another thread.

I've not seen a rational argument from you as to why you think you know better than a company's executives and BOD what is in their company's best interest. Must be Georgetown kinda thing.

Ya, assessing companies' problems and the things they do stupidly is kinda my job. But if you want to trust that CEOs are omniscient and can do no wrong, that is your prerogative. Every business needs some good grunts.

    Condolences to your clients.

Unlike some, I am not so arrogant as to assume I know what is in a company's best interest that I have nothing to do with better than those charged with running that company.
