Herbal medicine is at least two steps above sympathetic magic, I suppose.

Much better that the active ingredient, in the unlikely event that their is nothing more effective already available, should be refined or synthesized and administered in controlled dosages.

By the way I wouldn't get too excised about proclaiming one of your favored vices is a "medicine," since almost all medicines I'm aware of, are medicinal because of their toxicity, which is used to defeat or suppress one biological process or another.

Everyone I've ever heard of using this say that it's not the same thing

Of coursed its not the same thing. Its synthetic and supposed to be taken in controlled dosages instead of rolled up and smoked.

and not as effective.

Most likely its not as effective as getting the user high as actual marijuana does is what they mean.I seen a organization claiming its not as effective as marijuana too,of course one has to wonder if they are just injecting their own personal bias and preference to get stoned into this claim.

Marinol vs. Natural Cannabis - NORML

Back in college, I heard frequent expounding on the "medical uses of marijuana."

I would never have guessed that so many late-teens and early-twenty-somethings had such a high frequency of glaucoma, and that the dosage regimen required it be taken mostly after dark. Must help dampen the photosynthesis or something.

Glaucoma is so 90's. Now, it is used to treat various eating disorders, insomnia, chronic pain, nausea, muscular dystrophy, side effects of chemo, etc.... The list can go on and on.

It was '90s at the time. :)

You don't have to smoke marijuana. You can eat it.

Chemo patients just want to be able to eat.

Dear normal people,

Please do not let those single-issue pot-heads influence your opinion of libertarians.

Best regards,
The guy who wants to legalize all "victimless crimes".

Obama does not support decriminalization.

I don't know his position on medical marijuana, but I'm inclined to say it's "tolerates" rather than "supports"

Obama says he supports Medical Marijuana, but if he is a man of his word on the issue he needs to work with congress to get Barney Frank's "Medical Marijuana Patient Protection Act" passed after the health care issue is finally out of the way.

As far as decriminalization of recreational Marijuana - He said he was for it back in 2004 but at the Democratic Debate he didn't raise his hand when Anderson Cooper asked who on the stage supports decriminalization :(

Lucky bastard!

Umm...I mean...err.....drugs are bad, mkay.

yeah other drugs are bad but not mj:mrgreen:

Depends on what you mean by bad. There are some definite potentially negative effects both short term and long term from the use of marijuana. Saying it is "not bad" is highly inaccurate.

I believe marijuana is less harmful then other drugs that are legal now.

I just don't understand why they have to put people in prison or let the government tell them what they can or can't do with there own body. It doesn't matter if the drug is bad or not, the government shouldn't even torture our citizens who are addicted to drugs. They should be helping them Not throwing them in prison and taking their money away.
Now that's not Freedom....

You know what?

I agree with you, philosophically. I agree with you while having no interest in any recreational drugs save alcohol (and a sneaking curiosity about abstinthe). But I come to it, it looks like, from the opposite direction -- my views on personal freedom formed first and then I recognized that recreational drug use falls under it.

But I really wish you, and others like you, would drop the pretense and cut out all the nonsense about the "medicinal uses" of marijuana, and how it's "good for the economy," and everything else you don't actually care about -- just say you want to get high, it's your own business, and you don't think you should be put in jail for it.

Marijuana does have a valid medical use. There is nothing wrong with pointing it out.

Yeah, but it pretty transparent why he does.

But the reason he is pointing it out is not because he cares about medical treatment using weed, but because he wants to get high. Almost every single post he makes is on this one subject. In point of fact, those who want just medical marijuana, and not complete decriminalization have their point hurt by people like him who are glomming onto their issue just because he wants to get high.

He should just be honest, and actually argue for decriminalization or legalization, and leave medical marijuana out of it.
