I'm not anti-military (a strong defense is a great thing when it works) or a bum, but I must admit I am a hippy. ;)

Thanks for the reply.

But like that anti-military dirty hippy bum you made a asinine comparison when you compared the US enforcing its border to that of the Berlin wall..

Well I understand you don't see it the way I do. At one time the legal immigrants and anyone else from our side could at least visit with each other through the fence... but no, the border patrol went on record saying they needed to put up a secondary fence because they wouldn't want someone to pass some dope around. Oh no, that would be the end of the world.

I'll also mention that the border patrol also said it doesn't really stop them, it just slows them down for a few minutes. Sure, that will give the officers more time to respond but I think it's original purpose was to actually stop them.

Please re-read my post with my solution. Hopefully you will think it is more reasonable than a fence.

How is this in any way comparable to the Berlin wall? The Berlin wall was used to keep people from leaving basically keeping people prisoners and guards shot anyone attempting to escape.

I read your post its not a good idea. You see just a 51st state with potential resources, I see a 100 million people that will not assimilate, a 100 million plus new welfare recipients, Roads and highways to either build or repair, police to train or retrain, and many other problems, basically building a state from the ground up.

Is it possible to "seal" the borders? Yes!

Is it probable? Hells no!

Does it matter? Of course not!

Same here. I laughed when I first heard of this idea a few months ago, but it's very possible and we could keep our sovereignty. I strongly believe Mexico would join our union since they lack financial resources, man-power to combat the drug cartels, ect.

It's a win win for both of us in my opinion. The U.S. will have 3 more states and
no more money will be spent on FAILED immigration enforcement. In fact, we could use the border patrol troops to help combat the cartels.

The best part of this will be the fall of the Mexico-U.S. border fence. Children from both sides of the border will be able to play with each other like they could in the 1990's.

Oh yea, and we will no longer feel like we are living in Berlin!

Canada on the other hand... Well, I don't think the queen of England and the people of Canada would like the idea. :2canadian

The money that we save and then some will be sent down the drain of Mexico's not friendly to business economy. It'll be like Puerto Rico times 10

A HC thread has really turned into an illegal alien discussion so let's see what we think about that issue.

My thinking is with the length of our land borders (with Mexico & Canada) & all our beaches, if we took every member of ALL our military, police & Boy Scout troops & turned them into full-time border guards, we could never hope to even have a major effect on stopping illegal entry into this country.
(Other than having a "show of force" at the obvious entry points ......to help deter casual border crossers, any real attempts to seal any country's borders have always been doomed to failure & always will)

Even if we successfully catch a family of...let's say Mexicans....crossing illegally into this country, what do we do with them? (shoot them??) ..Of course not!...
OK...So let's incarcerate them!...But wait a minute....Now they are not only in our country but we have to feed, house & take care of their medical needs while in prison because they can't work!!...Nope...that won't work either.

The best we can do is send them home ...so that they can try again tomorrow...or next week, right?

:rofl  :rofl ...Let's say Mexicans! :rofl

I don't think it's possible to completely seal the borders, however it would greatly reduce illegal immigration if we actually cracked down on employers who hire them and deport them when we find out that they are here.

There, fixed it for you......:)

Either way works... I was laughing at the fact that he took the largest illegal immigrant group in the USA and acted as if, heck, lets use the Mexicans as the example. But your PC version is fine too. Thanks!

Yes.

The nation lacks the will to give me the authority and finances to do the job correctly.

The border is sealable by means we have now it would just be incredibly expensive. Many technologies exist to detect people crossing vast swathes of land such as surface radar, even bombard them with a sound gun telling them they are too close to a controlled border.

It would be unjustifiably expensive however.

Sea borders?
Air borders?
Space borders?
Undergound borders?

Sea air and land of course...
space is harder.
Oh NOES!!!!!111:shock:

Mexicans are invading from orbit!!!!!111

Sealing the borders may be possible, but it is impractical.

A much better way to deal with illegal aliens:

ELIMINATE all social services to illegals -- health care, education, housing, EBT cards, any other public services.

NEUTER AND SPAY all illegals who are caught committing crimes (I'm talking serious crimes, not pot smoking or traffic violations).

Switzerland doesn't close its borders and does not have a problem with illegals.

Why when[edit]most[/edit] pay taxes.

Ya, mine fuhrer. (ill just take the simple route and rather than expend intellectual energy on that waste of a comment I will call you a nazi.)

They don't border any third world countries. I don't see why you made a comparison here.

I consider illegal entry into the United States a serious crime.
