What is conservatism?

Ah, 'progressiveness"...
You do know that "change" and "progress" are not synonyms, right?

No but they usually go hand in hand.

Exactly. "Conservatism" is very subjective and the definition varies depending on whom you speak with. Therefore, it is interesting that you would tell Goldenboy that his definition is incorrect.

I would be more correct to point out that his definition is a commonly misconceived as the only definition of conservatism by misinformed people.

No but they usually go hand in hand.

Yes, but conservatives would argue change should be carefully considered and used in moderation to preserve its progressive nature.

I love watching the pro-Obama "slightly Conservative" & the John Kerry Libertarian rip on anyone...:doh

I'm not pro-Obama even though I voted for him. I did it strictly to keep McCain/Palin out of office. The last thing we needed was stacking the Supreme Court with more neo-con justices in an attempt to reverse RvW, plus Palin is an idiot that ought never step foot in the White House.

I've been extremely critical of a lot of the things that Obama has done in office so far, I just think McCain would have been a worse choice. I can't tell you the last time I actually supported anyone I've voted for, I've just gone for the lesser of the two evils.

The Republican Party is not conservative (e.g. McCain)

Libertarians, from my observations here and elsewhere, are conservative unless they are extreme libertarians commonly known as anarchists. :)

Hey, what is it about liberal democrats that they constantly sound off on what conservatives think, what conservatives are and what conservatives want. . . .(sentence deleted in the spirit of civility). . .
