I don't know about every last one of these claims, but the billions less in taxes spent on enforcing the law would help

I chose no. While it could greatly help our economy I think "save" is a bit to far.

Every one of your posts is on marijuana. Somehow I don't think industrial use or helping cancer patients is what you want it legal for.

Medically it has benifits far goes far beyond just "Cancer Patients".

which the pharmaceutical or alcohol industries certainly doesn't want.

Industrially the benifits far outweight what we get from petrolium based products. Cheaper and cleaner.

Our prisons are clogged with lowgrade offenders costing us billions.

Special interests certainly do not want it too be legal..they would lose.

Yes it would do our economy a hell of alot of good.

Which entirely misses my point. Most people pushing for medical and industrial uses of marijuana really want it legal so they can smoke it. Some one who makes all of his posts on this one subject really makes me suspect this is the case. I would prefer he was at least honest about it, instead of using every reason but the one that truly interests him.

Who the heck wants to go to jail for something as innocent as smoking herb..especially if it's for medical purposes?

Has this person stated that they are here for only one purpose? To promote smoking herb?

I'm sure "most people" have many valid reasons for wanting it legal other than not being persecuted for doing something as innocent as smoking a joint.

I would say yes, but I say no. That would just create more useful spending…

I think it would help, but save? No.

:fyi:

Actually, the plants name is "Hemp", and the varieties used for industrial purposes are different from the type used for marijuana...

Wikipedia:
Hemp (from Old English hænep, see cannabis (etymology)) is the common name for plants of the entire genus Cannabis, although the term is often used to refer only to Cannabis strains cultivated for industrial (non-drug) use.

Industrial hemp has been tried for many uses, including paper, textiles, biodegradable plastics, construction, health food, and fuel,[1] with modest commercial success.[2][3] In the past three years, commercial success of hemp food products has grown considerably.[4][5]

Hemp is one of the fastest growing biomasses known,[6] producing upto 25 tonnes of dry matter per hectare per year[7], and one of the earliest domesticated plants known.[8] For a crop, hemp is relatively environmentally friendly as it requires few pesticides[9] and no herbicides.[10]

Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. sativa is the variety grown for industrial use in Europe, Canada, and elsewhere, while C. sativa subsp. indica generally has poor fiber quality and is primarily used for production of recreational and medicinal drugs. The major difference between the two types of plants is the appearance and the amount of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) secreted in a resinous mixture by epidermal hairs called glandular trichomes, although they can also be distinguished by genetic means.[11] Strains of Cannabis approved for industrial hemp production produce only minute amounts of this psychoactive drug, not enough for any physical or psychological effects. Typically, hemp contains below 0.3% THC, while Cannabis grown for marijuana can contain anywhere from 6 or 7 % to 20% or even more[citation needed].

Industrial hemp is produced in many countries around the world.[12] Major producers include Canada, France, and China. While more hemp is exported to the United States than to any other country, the United States Government does not consistently distinguish between marijuana and the non-psychoactive Cannabis used for industrial and commercial purposes.

Tilly Hats, btw, makes some awesomely good outdoorsman hats out of hemp. Great stuff.

As I've said elsewhere, I do (somewhat reluctantly) support the legalization of MJ, but I think the OP is overstating the case a bit.

You know, I hope that would be the case....but I can't help but think that, the way gov't is, they'd find something else to declare a "war on ____" and proceed merrily to spend billions, arrest millions, and infringe on our rights in the name of whatever. Can't let all those LE/legal system/prison jobs vanish now can we...

Absolutely not, no economy is ever helped via a filthy habit, be it smoking, excessive drinking, gambling.
When people live better, enjoy life more, have better health(mentally and physically), then the economy improves - caused by a higher standard of living.
Marijuana should never have been made illegal..
Another thing that "improves the economy" is more intelligent law making..
Too many law-makers live in the previous centuries(1600s,1700s) - they must go...

A man can dream can't he?

If it's legalized the government could tax it. So yeah it could help our economy.
