If you were given 48 hours to track down and obtain a small amount (enough for a couple of highs/lows) of the above substances, could you do it? If so, how?

I could buy some pot right here where I sit right now. I bet I could buy others but I really don't care about them.

I could probably get just about anything. I thankfully don't any more though.

If I was highly motivated, I'm sure I'd be able to do it. However, I don't really know how I'd go about it.

No, no I can't.

And believe me I have tried.

Mushrooms, I want mushrooms, I live in mushroomland, yet no one can either sell them to me or tell me where to get them.

Hell, I can't even get weed!!!!!!!!!!

I wake up shaking in cold terror in the dark night wondering if I am really in Salt Lake City.

Still, the beer is great.

If I wanted to, I'm sure I could track virtually anything down one way or another. Luckily, I have no interest whatsoever so I'm not going to bother.

Any particular reason you're wanting to know these things?

Between being a doctor and someone who used to dabble (not anymore), I could find any of those things. Luckily I still have a brain.

8 hours? :rofl - if I REALLY wanted to I could track about half a pound of weed in 30 minutes. Maybe a few grams of coke within an hour. Meth & heroin it'd probably take 2 hours. Prescriptions within 4.

It's cheating to use your own.

Well yeah but i have no interest in it.

Any of the above, a couple phone calls. Pharmaceuticals are trickier if we're looking for something specific, but worst case scenario I can get a legitimate prescription and use it to forge a scrip for anything I might need.

I heard about someone who does this occasionally when he needs antibiotics but can't afford an office visit.

Come to think of it, it wouldn't be that difficult at all for me to convince my doctors to up my dosages on most of what I'm taking now, and I could make a decent sideline on the surplus. Unfortunately, don't know anyone I trust well enough to deal for me.

The point is to show how ineffective the war on drugs is. If a bunch of fairly average not-terribly criminal people like us who probably aren't all junkies can easily find drugs, its pretty clear that it won't be a barrier to anyone who actually wants them. I am willing to bet that if you asked "could you get marijuana more easily actually getting a prescription for a drug you are allowed to take?" it wouldn't look good for either the war on drugs or the Healthcare system.

I would also ask "how easy was it to get alcohol as a minor?" just to round out the complete failure of prohibition in keeping the stuff out of people's hands.

I was able to buy alcohol for my friends by the time i was 15 in stores and supermarkets chains.

ID is rarely asked for.

Dammit, I knew I shouldn't have responded. I'm skewing your data.

Yeah, I could.
I could also rob a store, murder a person or speak on the cellphone while drunk-driving.

Any of the above after a 30 minute drive to go visit a friend.

I honestly have no idea how I'm supposed to track down illegal drug dealers. I could get marijuana from my friends if I wanted to (which I don't want to), that's it.

I could get anything pretty quickly...I live in the suburbs.

Get a job at a local fast food restaraunt. ;)

That's because we don't have a war on drugs and never have, we have a media campaign on drugs. We've never taken it particularly seriously and that's why we have the problem we have.

Probably.
Are you foolish,(or as our President Obama has said, "stupid") enuff to try them ?
And I think I would sell them, as has Walter White(methamphetamine). But,after watching his adventures and misadventures, NO!
Morals - out the window.
Respect for mankind - down the toilet.
And what is the point of this poll ?

It's really a matter of how much of a criminal element you can find in your localities. The suburbs are filled with criminals. Just it's hard for cops to patrol 24/7 in areas where people are always inside or in their backyards. You go to a trailer park, ghetto and you're more likely to find drugs because the element is more visible and therefor easier to target. It's a sad fact but it's true. I've realized I can't really blame cops for flocking to ghettos and trailer parks to make arrests. It'd be like being in a room full of strippers and NOT getting a hard on.
