Most country folks can sustain themselves without outside help if need be (dont rely on others as much). But alot if not most city people could not. Remove all the food and clothing from the supermarkets and city people would be in real trouble. Most wouldnt know where to begin when it came to raising farm animals or crops. Country folk on the other hand would be fine if we removed all industrial products. There lives may be more difficult but they could survive.

I'm not disputing any of that. I agree. However, that said, I still believe that this is exactly why Country Folk tend to be more conservative. They are more isolated and as a result live lives in which, as a matter of sheer necessity, are much more focused on themselves and their families.

People in cities are exposed much more to other individuals and thus I believe are much more likely to adopt views and ideas which are much more inclusive of other individuals.

I'm 30 years old. Right of center lean economically, socially I'm a mild libertarian, and most likely considered by most to be far-right/neo-con in regards to foreign policy. No affiliation with any political party.
Lived my life in "the real world" in several aspects, from small town living to large city living, northwoods to the deep south.

To try and take it to as neutral point as possible...

You both are basically saying that those in more rural areas are more focused on self-responsability and reliance while those in cities are more community focused?

    Re: Age Demographics

I'm 21 and am definitely becoming more conservative. I was raised in an extremely liberal household, and I was a pot-smoking teenager during the bush years (oh the paranoia!) - small wonder I lean left. I started leaning libertarian for a while until I had a few conversations with some real libertarians and decided that libertarianism is just as impractical as communism. Now I'm drifting to the right, but the GOP is such a caricature of itself that I'm almost never able to agree with anything a republican says publically. Still, I expect the rightward trend to continue

    Re: Age Demographics

I turn 43 in a couple of months and while I was never what you could call liberal, I certainly have gotten more conservative as time has gone on in some areas.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.
