    Irony, I know...

However, you have to be 21 to obtain a carry permit. Keywords: responsible, law-abiding adults.

I actually have no problem with concealed carry permits. I realize, as someone who worked for a law enforcement agency, that they reduce crime.

However, mass shootings aren't more likely to occur on school campuses than elsewhere. That's simply statistically inaccurate.

Just because we see that this poll is an attempt to draw an inaccurate portrait does not mean we are against concealed carry permits.

Yeah, and the idea that these school shootings occurred at schools because the perpetrators believed that school personnel would be disarmed simply lacks any understanding of the mentality of people who commit mass murders.

Frankly, there are more armed personnel on the average school campus than at the typical job site. Schools, generally speaking, have school resource officers (sworn law enforcement personnel who carry weapons), or security personnel (also, generally armed), or their own police department (also armed). I can't think of any major university in the U.S. (thinking Virginia shooting) that doesn't have both a police force AND security personnel.

Unless you work in criminal justice, I doubt your job site has those kinds of protections.

People who commit mass shootings often EXPECT to die, that they will be killed by on-site security or law enforcement, or responding police personnel. When you look at Klebold/Harris, they were engaged in a death pact...they WANTED to die, and they didn't want to do so alone.

That, interestingly enough, is primarily a mindset shared only by men, women tend to suicide instead. And, specifically, white middle class men.

Trying to use mass shootings as a justification for concealed carry is just lacking in any deep thought on the subject. The average person isn't going to be able to get to a weapon in time to make a difference in a mass shooting. They happen quite quickly, with forethought and planning, and typically at a time when the victims would be unarmed (like when they're in a gym, working out).

The times when concealed carry really comes into play is when the victim is typically ALONE, and is targeted by a predatory, opportunistic criminal.

So, if you really want to make the case for concealed carry, focus on car-jackings, home invasions/burglaries, and attempted rapes/assaults.

Just a tip, from a friendly criminal justice professional.

And this points to what I don't understand about gun nuts. Their argument should be simple. Guns are an inherent right in this country. That simple statement says it all. There is no need to justify the right, it just is, the same as free speech, free religion, and so on. All this poll did was make a gun nut look foolish, and did nothing to further his point. Gun nuts try to hard.

I think that concealed carry is an inherent right. I don't see it coming under serious attack any time soon, gun ownership is entrenched in the U.S. For gosh sakes, we have more guns than people in this country!

But, the poll was epic fail.
