The man seems to make it his lifes work to anger as many groups possible.

This week he did the whole advert which has apparently pissed off both the Germans and Polish. Not to mention insulting the PM ... again lol

I like Clarkson but in the interest of fairness, should he get some form of reprimand from the BBC?

Yeah maybe. I feel its kind of unfair that German and Polish relations are still tied to the same bed and continue to be the butt of jokes. Now, exactly what that reprimand should be, I have no idea of.

The ad is funny but still it brings back some turbulent memories from the past. If you say that he expects to get some negative reactions when he does this kind of thing, then whatever consequence he receives should not upset him.

Perhaps but i do feel they are getting a bit too touchy over just a line.

Its not like Clarkson just picks on Germans or Polish. He picks on British, Scots, French are his particular favourite lol

Remember the classic Faulty Towers episode where Senor Tower ran around telling everyone NOT too mention the "War" when the German tourists came? That was funny.

This, was just offensive.

:rofl

Thanks, I had not seen that in a few years. Damn good classic. Too bad there were so few episodes produced.

Jeremy Clarkson HATES American cars.. think I remember one American car he liked, and that was only because it looked cool. He called it a cool looking badly built plastic car or something similar to that.. think it was corvette.

He has his "views" on things and is not shy in voicing those views. Normally he likes German cars.. (BMW M3 is one of his favs and he owns a merc), but all he is doing here, is jumping on the same populist xenophobic right wing bandwagon of blaming poles and others for the problems of the UK :)

Not the first time btw he has done something like this, but it is usually America that gets the thick end of the stick... he loves saying "you want cheeeeeseeee with that" when talking about American food :)

His best show was when all 3 bought 3 clunkers in Texas I think and drove to Florida and had certain "trials" by the producers along the way. One was to paint their cars with "hot button issues" and drive through the bible belt.. now that was funny. One had comments about gays, other one had comments about Clinton on the car.. man people looked a few times extra. Same show he installed a shower in his car because it had no air condition.. was damn funny.

But he also loves going after the PM, London mayor and anyone that does not promote cars ahead of everything else. He hates bus lanes, pulbic transport and what not, even though he has had to admit defeat several times when they have done car vs public transport races.

He also famously drove a Rolls into a pool once.

He strikes me as a second class jerk.
Its the media that should be reprimanded for giving him air time/space..

He's actually liked and even owned a number of American cars, when they did their trip to the Bonneville Salt flats, all three of them drove American cars (Clarkson in the Corvette, James May in a Caddy and Richard Hammond in a Mustang) and they all absolutely loved them.

If any of you had actually WATCHED the episode of Top Gear in question, you wouldn't be up in arms, it's amazing just how far people are willing to go to view things out of context. Clarkson and May were challenged to make a commercial for Volkswagon and no matter what they tried, the ad people turned them down. The ad you people are referring to was his attempt at humor and it was funny as hell except to people who have sticks shoved firmly up their asses.

Or are people going to complain about the final commercial with the funeral and the coffin stuck in the back of the Scirocco?

And it's his show, he can say what he wants. If people don't like it, they don't have to watch it.

He goes after everything and everyone, he has insulted just about every country in Europe, much more often than he has insulted American cars. That's why the show has been on the air for 13 series so far and still going strong.

He also famously drove a Rolls into a pool once.

They don't have any sacred cows on Top Gear which is exactly why it's such a good show. There is nothing on the planet which cannot and probably will not get made fun of.

And yet all 3 trash just about every American made car after the 1960s they are unfortunate to get their hands on. They even trashed an Aussie car because it was basically an American car (GM) with a different name lol. As for James May liking a caddy.. the man drives a rolls daily, so ..

And it's his show, he can say what he wants. If people don't like it, they don't have to watch it.

Not exactly true. It is on the BBC, which is 100% tax payer funded. Hence if people dont like it, they can complain to the BBC who then can discipline him.. which they have done before. Although this.. doubt it.

True, but that is mostly because they stay clear of American cars. The only "American" car they actually look at at a regular basis are Fords and yes those they are very positive about. However to be honest.. they aint much American in those cars they sell over here in Europe. Then again Vauxhaul/Opel have gotten some okay mentions and they are "technically" American cars..

I have as of yet seen only one positive mention of an American car (other than European made Fords) on the show and that was a tongue in cheek positive mention as it only delt on how "cool" it was and not on quality. He often makes jokes against Americans, usually in some sort of "funny" outrageous America accent with "you want CHEEEESE with that" satirical comment on fat Americans .. yes it is semi ironic considering he aint exactly "thin" himself.

They do have one, which Clarkson attempts to protect as much as possible.. the car is the superior transportation method anywhere. The scared cow is protecting cars at all costs, even it means rambling on about speed cameras, fines, bus lanes and congestion charges.

GMAX sports suspensions are very good on bumpy or rutted roads, it would be a big ask of them thought to run over Clarkson.

He is to big for that.. rather a large person over 6 feet I suspect.. (then again hard to be sure, since Hammond is like 2 loafs of bread stacked on top each other).

Maybe if you ran over him lenght ways using the off side front and rear tyre only, in fact if you raised his trunk and head to create a ramp you could do the two wheel stunt from the Bond movie:)

Think they tried that in one of their shows!

No it was a joke. I guess free speech is only acceptable when not in the EU.

Then Gmax sports suspension should do the trick

What difference does it make if he trashes American cars? The overwhelming majority of American cars *ARE* crap.

It would be utterly stupid if they did, but since the UK is turning into a police state, wouldn't be completely surprised. The only people who are complaining about this are people with utterly no sense of humor whatsoever.

That's because the focus of Top Gear are supercars made to be driven in the UK and Europe. That doesn't include a lot of American models. They do mention some of the European brands of American manufacturers as you point out, but they don't usually get reviewed because, again, that's not the focus of the show.

I have as of yet seen only one positive mention of an American car (other than European made Fords) on the show and that was a tongue in cheek positive mention as it only delt on how "cool" it was and not on quality. He can make as much fun of American cars as he wants. Heck, I do all the time and I'm an American. What difference does it make? Jeremy makes fun of British cars too and he's British.

They do have one, which Clarkson attempts to protect as much as possible.. the car is the superior transportation method anywhere. The scared cow is protecting cars at all costs, even it means rambling on about speed cameras, fines, bus lanes and congestion charges.

Geez, it's a CAR SHOW! Are you not realizing that?

Oh i agree it was a joke but someone mentioned this on radio and a huge host of people phoned in and said it was offensive and i wanted to see if others truly saw it as offensive enough to get suspension or a reprimand

By that Aussie car, are you refering to the Holden(Vauxhall) Menaro? sold in the U.S. as the Pontiac G8?

Because they gave that car rave reviews. In fact, earlier in this very episode they raved over the return of said car, which came back as a 4 door after production ended a while back.

As far as other American cars, somebody has already mentioned the Bonneville trip, which involved a Corvette, a Cadillac, and a Dodge Challenger(not a mustang). I pulled up the episode and took this quote:

We came here wondering if America had finally made a car that might actually work in the civilized world. The answer is no, they haven't. As you can see from our smiles, they've made three.

Regardless of what they say about American cars, does that make the program wrong? America hasn't put out many great things carwise in the last 20 years or so. Really, the only thing that the U.S. does exceptionally well at has been trucks and SUVs. Even then, Japanese competitors are giving them a run for their money.

I see. Yea people get worked up over some pretty stupid stuff. I mean it was just a joke for goodness sake.

In fact I thought it was pretty funny. A commercial similar to that would work here. ;)

Quick correction to my post- I incorrectly said the Holden Monaro was sold in the U.S. as the Pontiac G8, it was actually badged as the GTO.

No it was a joke. I guess free speech is only acceptable when not in the EU.

There is no such thing as "free speech".
Limited and reasonable free speech is closer to the truth; but far too many abuse this, and this includes all of the governments.
I never have heard of this Clarkson feller....I do not think I am missing anything..

Im not quite sure what you mean by that.

As for this clarkson thing.

People complaining yes they can complain moan away but, they have to realise they are only a tiny percentage of people that are"outraged".Nearly all jokes have someone/something as the butt of the joke.If you can never offend people you cant really have comedy.
