In what way? People keep saying things like this but they do not specify.

Are we talking about government institutions forcibly denying minorities the same opportunities as whites? Or are we just talking about some back-woods redneck calling a black man the N word?

To say that race is a non-issue in America right now is too big of a generalization.
That isn't what I'm saying. Obviously, race will be issue in some way, shape, or form no matter what we do. What I take issue with is this idea that a power structure of some sort is actively repressing minorities in some capacity. Thus far, no one has been able to provide one modicum of a shred of a sliver of evidence that this assertion is true. Perhaps you could enlighten me?

It makes total sense that Affirmative action was put into place. Instead of using Occam's Razor, and doing the simple thing, by simply stating that nobody can be discriminated against due to race/gender etc....and allowing those who had been previously discriminated against to rise up and take control of their own destiny, we decided we would reverse the ship and make it so that if we "fix the numbers" regarding racial/gender quotas, we would have absolved discrimination. So instead of people receiving jobs/benefits on the basis of their ability, we propped up a faux "equality" that was handed out, not achieved through effort and skill.

It's about par for the course as far as our government goes. Take a good and noble idea, and take it in 100 wrong directions.
No ****, right? AA laws are essentially the government demanding that employers discriminate based on race and sex. I mean, you're required by law to discriminate. Only our government could be that ****ing retarded.

That's what makes our country so great!

Remember the 1 1/2th Amendment? "Congress must make a law respecting the establishment of discriminatory laws after about the 1960s."

I personally do not support affirmative action, as it is defined at this time.

    It is, IMO, legislated discrimination.

Further, I think it encourages discriminatory thoughts among the people it effects. As such, it is causing the opposite effect that it was supposed to, IMHO.

That said, discrimination has in no way been eliminated in the US, nor will it ever be. Or at least so it seems at this time. I can hope the opposite is the case, however.
