Then the standardized tests came along. Kids had to actually KNOW things. Education improved dramatically. Don't tell me that standardized tests are just kids barking things back, they require teachers to actually TEACH things.

Now, I have some issues with the test, but it's better than no test for sure.
standardized tests are great idea for math and sciences.

a very bad idea for teaching history.

math and sciences are mostly facts. history is mostly lies.

and that's probably not the question your teacher is expecting.

in other words giving an intelligent answer would make you FAIL while giving a brain dead answer would make you pass.
The answer you gave was hardly "intelligent".

Ah, but here is one place we can agree. I grew wary long ago with the misinformation history teachers passed off as fact- not because the government made them do it, mind you, but because of the beliefs of the teachers themselves.

It would be much more productive to teach the raw information and let the students form their own opinions, rather than try to teach such falsities as "the New Deal ended the Great Depression" when that is only one interpretation of the facts.

Dav we're looking at the same problem from different perspectives.

You are asking the question - how do i make sure i get a nice job after i am done with school.

I am asking the question - how did we end up with a society of sheep ?

    good cartoon.

well look. 99% of my life is like that cartoon but there is also 1% where i actually do something whereas other people do nothing.

    what i do:

1 - i donated to Ron Paul twice, $50 and $100 respectively during his campaign
2 - i donated to $100 to Wikipedia last year
3 - i recently bought $60 worth of Alex Jones T-Shirts ( directly from his site, so supporting him financially ) and i WEAR THEM.

i get ALOT of looks when i wear this shirt:

    Socialism T-Shirt

4 - i have a little website of my own so people can read some of my ideas:

    http://www.diy-av.net/

5 - i spend hundreds of hours debating people like you even though there is nothing in it for myself

6 - i pay $20/month for Box.net account where i host various files so when lets say a new movie from Alex Jones comes out within a day or so i have it uploaded to the server and send out direct download links to friends as well as post the link on multiple messageboards

the point is i am doing SOMETHING. most people do NOTHING.

    No.

Math and science are most understanding and defined method.

    History is mostly understanding people.
