Re: So what if Obama is Muslim?

Let's be honest, absolutely no religion exists where someone, somewhere, in another religion doesn't think it's beliefs are "looney".

Someone out there thinks the lack of any belief is "looney"

Someone out there thinks believing a dude once turned water into wine at a wedding is "looney".

Someone out there thinks believing that there is a goddess death is "looney".

Someone out there thinks believing that the Earth was created in 7 days is "looney".

IMO, thinking someone's beliefs are "looney" is all well and good, but also requires that person to ignore the "looniness" inherent in their own beliefs.

Let's face it, when trying to explain that which cannot be explained, the answers we come up with will always have some degree of lunacy, regardless of what they are.

The earth being created in 7 literal days is rather loony.

But regardless, if Obama was a muslim; he'd still be doing a poor job as President. His religion doesn't matter that much.

The angel took them back. Okay, the angel took them back.

Did it ever occur to Y'all, my Alabama homie, that there WAS nothing for the angel to take back?

Religion isnt something where you can pick and choose. Either you follow it or you do not.

If I told you I am a human but I dont need to eat, drink or breathe then I wouldnt really be a human.

If you dont accept Jesus then you are not Christian. You are not Hindu, you are agnostic with affinity toward the Hindu society.

    I am a Neo Pagan/Shamanism.
Well then, damn ... we're just purely stating our opinions now.

Because religion is so expansive and different all over the world, and because it is seen as different through the eyes of different people, its not entirely possible to give one perfect definition of religion.

This is what I usually use when I think about religion, its a quote I found on another forum. Its on Wikipedia too, but its from a different source, not just some random Wikipedia fanboy. I'm not sure who said it, but I can find the speaker if you want me to:

"A religion is an organized approach to human spirituality which usually encompasses a set of narratives, symbols, beliefs and practices, often with a supernatural or transcendent quality, that give meaning to the practitioner's experiences of life through reference to a higher power, God or gods, or ultimate truth."

In my case its just the ultimate truth. In Hinduism, many people pick and choose various parts of the religion and still consider themselves Hindu. Maybe the idea of following one set of strict rules is followed in your Paganism, and that's fine, but that's not the case worldwide.

    Nice dodge.

No I chose Paganism because it gives me the freedom to pick and choose what I find to be the truth. If I followed a religion then I must follow its rules and regulations if I do not then why have organized religion at all. In my opinion that would be the best solution.

Good, that's exactly what I do. I don't believe in organized religion either. Hinduism is not as organized as, let's say, Catholicism, which seems strictly organized to the point that its leader is one of the most influential people in the world. Their are multiple sects of Hinduism that many people around the world do not recognize. For example you have the Shivites, who specifically worship Shiva and the Vishnivites who specifically worship Vishnu, both groups are against each other, both groups are Hindu groups yet choose not to worship certain Hindu gods.

I don't follow the religion as a whole, I follow a set of rules that I set for myself that based on the religion. If people wish to follow the strict set of rules so be it, but they can't expect others to do the same.

I really cant understand how this can be a religion if you can simply pick and choose parts of it. I mean I like parts of Kabbala, and accept certain parts of the old testament but I dont claim to follow Judaism.
