Nope. Heard an interview with the Sergeant on the radio, he said that their Standards Department conducted an investigation and declared that he followed policy exactly. Sorry.

Hell, I haven't heard anything that says the officer overreacted in the slightest. Now, I don't think Professor Gates was legally guilty of Disorderly Conduct--which is why those charges were dropped-- but when confronted with an irrational and belligerent man who refuses to calm down, what choice do the police have but to arrest him, at least until he cools off?

I know that if I mouthed off to a police officer in that fashion, and yelled at a police officer in the manner I have heard described, I would be arrested. After being tasered. And possibly beaten.

I wish I were oppressed and profiled like old, rich Harvard professors were.

No worries. Just hadn't seen/heard that little tidbit before, and was wondering where you got it from. Thanks!

    Hell no.

Let that boy apologize on national TV, and let it be a real apology.

I wouldn't lend him a photo-op to lie some more.

They'd have to have the Secret Service leave the room for a little while, then.

On reflection... it was probably Sgt Crowley's Captain or Chief who made the call that yes, Crowley was going to visit the Casa Blanca, and make nice with BHO and Gates.

It's possible, but given the grace of his public statement following President Obama's phone call, it seems to me that he would have chosen to cooperate on his own. He seemed satisfied with the President's actions, and I would imagine that he has wanted to smooth over the ruffled feathers with Professor Gates since this story began.

He's just not going to stand for being told that he acted improperly when every indication was that he did not.

As to whether Sgt Crowley is going willingly and enthusiastically, or is just putting a good face on the inevitable, I have no idea. Still I bet dollars to doughnuts that his Chief told him "you need to do this".

Yes the cop should..He played a role in the whole thing...in many ways not a proper role...once it was established that gates lived there the cop should have walked....even though he was taking a verbal bashing...that is part of a cops job.

His job was to establish if there was a Breaking and Entering taking place. Once that was established..he should have walked...no matter what. Unless he was phycially in danger.

He certainly should be humble enough to go to the Whitehouse if invited and admit his faults just as others will..If not he will look like that arrogant ass that he has already proven himself to be.
