Of course one can twist this to be a position that could be favorable towards anarchy, but this is different than supporting removal of other/all rules.

Swear filters by nature are very tempermental, and non-"swear" words often fall victim due to the fact that they have a swear word in them somewhere. I've been at one forum where "assume" was partially censored.

I think there should be at least a very lax filter, I'm also liking the idea of optional filtering. This isn't Digg or Youtube though, the kinds of idiots that often plague those places (and fill page after page with useless swearing) don't have a survivable habitat here. We are on a higher discussion/debate level than that, and know when to control our language enough to use swears in the most extreme circumstances for the most part.

    I voted yes.

When I was a young child, I read Fredric Brown's Martians Go Home for the first time, and the martians would quim in and say "---- you, Mack", then leave. It was a mystery what the "----" was then, and mystery is what makes life interesting.

FYI: All the men were called "Mack", all the broads were called "toots". If you haven't read it, your loss.

Ummm....whats your problem? If your too up your own arse to join a simple harmless debate whereby i gather the opinions on the swearing filter on this forum which i happen to think is a slight annoyance, then leave the damn thread.

    No, it's not necessary.
There's no one in the forum that doesn't know what ****, ****, **** or the rest of the asterisks are.

With the sort of language I'd expect if the filter were off, I expect there would soon be little really interesting discussion around here for adults.

Rubbish, what difference would it make? People can get around it easier than they can write it on these forums anyway. Violation or not.

I say keep it. I'd rather not have people cussing all the time. **** is better than, well, I can't say obviously.

In that case they have to exercise a modicum of thought. This is excellent therapy.
