If Meth Was Legalized...

If Meth Were Legal, Would You Use It?

Sorry, Meth. I was speaking more to the thread title, DMT not so much.
Figured. Yeah, meth is not anything I'm interested in. The damage it deals to you physically and mentality is appalling. Make no mistake though, I still think it should be legal. If you want to destroy your life to get high, go for it.

**** no! There is no legitimate or logical reason to use meth. It's horrible...it's made from stuff under the kitchen sink! I'll entertain arguments about drugs in general being legal, but even if this **** was legal there's no way in hell I'd willingly use it. Stick to pot folks.

Doesn't pot grow on manure?

I want it to stay illegal so the dopeheads can die without anyone being sued.

Would you like to prove that it does or just continue to speculate?

Synthesis
A common method of synthesis begins with L -ephedrine, which is reduced to methamphetamine using hydriodic acid and red phosphorus. Alternative approaches include using a different acid, a different catalyst, or a substituted ephedrine (eg, chloroephedrine, methylephedrine).

The methamphetamine produced by ephedrine reduction is a lipid-soluble pure base form, which is fairly volatile and can evaporate if left exposed to room air temperature. This product is converted to the water-soluble form, methamphetamine hydrochloride (HCl) salt. Illicitly synthesized methamphetamine may be contaminated by nonstimulant organic or inorganic impurities. Poisoning from heavy metals, such as lead and mercury, or from solvents used in the synthesis process have been reported. Exposures to carcinogenic materials have been noted.Street methamphetamine may be mixed with many drugs, including cocaine. Studies show that 8-20% of street-available stimulants contain both drugs. In a report on cocaine intoxication, 7% of patients sought medical help because of concurrent use of cocaine and amphetamines.

Making ice, the smokable form of methamphetamine, from standard quality methamphetamine HCl is essentially a purification process. Methamphetamine HCl is added slowly to water that has been heated 80-100°C until a supersaturated solution is obtained. When the slurry is cooled, pure HCl salt of methamphetamine (ice) precipitates. Methamphetamine HCl, unlike cocaine HCl, is volatile and can be smoked. Other solvents, such as isopropanol, have been used in place of water to speed the process. Uncontrolled variations of this process can result in unreliable removal or addition of impurities. The physical characteristics of the final product depend on the quality and type of reagents used and on contaminants that may have been introduced. The lack of significant further processing of methamphetamine HCl has resulted in increased availability and popularity of smoking the drug.

Toxicity, Methamphetamine: eMedicine Emergency Medicine

Are you really trying to argue that the chemicals used to synthesize meth don't result in toxic byproducts that are ingested by users?

You know the problem with a lot of those drugs is that they can turn almost anyone into a liberal.

All my conservative friends are coke heads:mrgreen:

I tried meth and I can not stand the stuff.

Me too. Would never do it again.

I had some friends (don't associate with them anymore) who were addicted to meth. A couple of them have cleaned up, but most are just wierded out junkies whom I can't stand to be around. I hate how they think there is something cool about addiction. Like being a loser is something to be proud and brag about.

I was referring to lye in DMT, not an assortment of toxins in Methamphetamine.

So, it is your claim that the toxic chemicals that are used to process meth, including lye, do not result in toxic by-products in methamphetamine?

Actually, I work and live in the state capitol of Florida, and you'd be amazed how many conservatives are secret cokeheads. Or maybe you wouldn't.

I really wouldn't be surprised;)

Fair enough, I think Crack, PCP, and Meth are too varied in results of usage to ever make a case for legalization, it's more of a public safety thing with me. Other drugs I think a case could be made for outright or semi-legalization, but those core three are just too dangerous in my opinion.

I completely understand where you're coming from. However, the case has been made by Ethereal in this thread that legalization doesn't necessarily mean that we will see an increase in usage.

Good point. Hopefully people have learned from the current user generation that those are stupid choices, but I'm not convinced yet that the risk of legalizing those three is worth it.

Obama could be a closet conservative.
