What are Your Privacy Expectations per Uncle Sam?

Please take a minute to complete my short anonymous survey on privacy expectations and govt intrusion. This is for a law school paper. Thanks.

Re: What are Your Privacy Expectations per Uncle Sam?

This survey is flawed insofar as it ignores a crucial aspect of government access into personal data. That aspect is a search warrant and reasonable suspicion of criminal activity based upon probable cause.

Thus, I'd have major problems with Uncle Sam accessing my personal data FOR NO REASON. However, if Uncle Sam is accessing the library records of John Gotti based upon a reasonable search warrant and a reasonable suspicion of Mr. Gotti's involvement in criminal activities, and a suspicion that he is using materials in the library to further his criminal endeavors, I have zero problems with that.

I.e., proving that the unibomber used the anarchist's cookbook, which he checked out from the local library, to build bombs that he mailed to unsuspecting and innocent people seems to me to be a crucial aspect of building a criminal case against him. I'm down with the federal agencies pursuing all leads available when there is a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity.

Maybe they'll teach you about search warrants, not to mention 28 CFR Part 23 and law enforcement intelligence collection requirements later in law school.

    Although, sadly, I doubt it.
    Hope that helps.

Warrants....warrants.....they don't need no stinking warrants.

They have enough going that warrants are becoming a thing of the past. Just declare someone some group and you automatically get the power to do whatever you want. Don't question the authority, they know what's best for you.

You probably need o get used to just such a world. Technology is evaporating the concept of privacy, and that's only going to become more pronounced.

There was an old "Outer Limits" episode where aliens attacked humanity by providing machines that could monitor anyone anywhere. The result was basically universal paranoia. In retrospect, it seems prophetic.
