I would burn it, to prevent it from falling to the wrong hands.

Take the cash and drop off the rest in the police station.

I recently had this issue, me and my sister found a bag on the street. Had a few 50 pound notes and alot of credit cards and personal details. Sis wanted to take it all and i just wanted the cash, so we broke even. We took the cash and made sure the rest found its way back to the owner.

What do you mean, your sister wanted it all?
What else did she want beside the cash that was in the wallet?

    Oh i should have mentioned.
The bag was so nice and phone.

But i took pity, i have no idea why looking back, I think it was to justify and square it off with my head morally. Just take the money and leave everything else

Take the cash and mail the wallet back to the owner. Finder's fee.

At first your response was somewhat surprising to me, but then I saw your avatar.

Re: If you found a wallet on the street...

I have returned wallets before if there was an easily identifiable address or phone number in it, I've done the same for cell phones. If I can't identify an address or phone number, I would turn it over to the authorities who have more resources (although granted, probably no incentive) to track down the owner.

In no circumstances would I keep it.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

Damn right, and when they get it, they should be grateful you didn't take their identity.

I've found a cell phone or two. I leave a voicemail on the "Mom" contact's phone when I do. That's really the easiest/surest way of getting word back to the owner
