To answer who was more popular it has to be Michael Jackson.
1- Because of modern day accomplishments like the computer, Michael has a much wider world audience.
2- Michael also performed in many more countrys than Elvis did.

I have to go with MJ on this one, since his material was original. Elvis sang material chosen for him that was stolen from black artists. An example is Hound Dog, which was written and performed by Big Mama Thornton before the record company made a lot of money from it by giving it to Elvis and targeting a white audience.
