Well there's a shot from the far left. From what I can recall and dig up, there was no claim that Saddam was directly involved with 9/11, but that he was involved in state sponsored terrorism. Are you aware that the two main UN countries in opposition to the invasion, France and Russia, had sovereign oil fields in Iraq? Oil was pumped out of Iraqi soil and went directly to those two countries without any toll, tariff, or purchase. What do you think their real motive for opposition was? Saddam defied over 10 years of sanctions and other diplomatic efforts and he was propped up by UN member countries that were benefiting from his regime. 2 years previous to Bush getting elected, Regime change in Iraq became an official goal of US foreign policy. In that same year, the Clinton administration launched Operation Desert Fox, calling in air and missile strikes on pointless targets and random chunks of empty desert, and yet, the Iraq issue is President Bush's fault?
Afghanistan attacked us after huge monetary and weapon support in their fight with the Soviet Union. If middle eastern fascist regimes are going to attack us when we do help them (immensely) how are we going to ensure our safety through diplomatic methods?? Diplomacy with fascist governments just doesn't work.
While I agree that the timing of the second invasion of Iraq was poor, the necessity is without question. At some point people are really going to have expect our President to deal with his own issues without making excuses about the previous administration. His Presidency is half over, man up.
