1. Thats a very stupid example to give.
Could haves are a very slippery slope, covered in a thick layer of WD40.

2. It's not what could have happened, it's what did happen: he didn't just leave the state without telling anyone, he left the country, all the while leaving his entire state standing.
And what important work did he miss out on?

3. You need to add some common sense and logic to your arguement. Look beyond the words old man.
What is this in response to?

4. We can't do anything substantial without the appointed official in the office. What he said goes.
If something has to be done and the one who is supposed to do it is unreachable, the next in command should be the first person to contact. Period. I don't see what is so hard about that.

So, you want us to become a military dictatorship? Now you're really talking nonsense dude!
Quote me where I stated that we should become a military dictatorship.

I agree that this IS "the" issue (or should be) with this entire debacle. Personal opinions over whether this issue is large enough to force him to resign are going to vary. Mine is that he should not resign, I believe the good that many South Carolinians believe he has done for the state over the years can outweight this mistake that didn't actually cause any serious problems (but could have). I live about 15 minutes from the SC border, so we get alot of SC news. News about the governor has been mostly positive up until now. You being a person who lives a little farther away may or may not know much about any positive effects he has had on the government. That is my position, his positive effect and is it better than one screw up that didn't cause any harm.

So political leaders are not allowed to have personal moments of weakness? This again is going back to the expectation that these people are "super-human".

You are right. I am unaware of the good he has done, and I know that it would positively impact my opinion of him. I saw a campaign ad he did when running for governor--talking about family values and his marriage and children. I can't help but think what a liar he is, and that has a negative impact on my opinion of him.

I actually really like it when I see political leaders have "human moments." When Sanford had his initial press conference, I was in admiration of his candidness and honesty. He didn't try to soften the blow to himself. BUT, his crying over the loss of his lover, talking about how he had met his soulmate, how he was going to try to fall back in love with his wife--this information is TMI about his personal life. If he felt that way, that is absolutely fine. It's one thing to feel that way and another thing to voice that publicly to the Associated Press. That's just plain stupid, and his character is lost in my opinion.

1. yeah, you really showed that in your example.
2. It's the fact he went out of the country without telling anyone. Thats the basis for him being a bad gov at this point. everything else is moral.
3. *Sigh* If I need to tell you, you really need the advice.
4. What's so hard about that is we are a bureacracy.
5. Reasonable inference. You made a reference to a combat procedure, where the lead soldier ( dictator) dies, his second in command (dictator's exec) takes over. :doh

To me it shows that he can be honest.

And lets not all pretend that people get married and never fall "out of love" with that person or only stay with that person out of convenience for their children (because kids are/should be the #1 priority). He lost love for his wife (no telling how long ago) and fell in love with this woman, and it was eating him up inside, due to his personal views on "family" and such.

At least thats how I see it. It just shows that politicians are REAL PEOPLE too. Apparently too few people WANT them to be real people.

1. yeah, you really showed that in your example.
Good. You understood. That was the point of making an absurd example.

2. It's the fact he went out of the country without telling anyone. Thats the basis for him being a bad gov at this point. everything else is moral.
Agree. It wasn't the best choice. But it is only human to err. This error didn't cost the people of SC anything. Many of His constituents have made more egregious errors in their lives, and have been forgiven.
3. *Sigh* If I need to tell you, you really need the advice.
I guess I need the advice, since you don't break each response down by quotes, its hard to ascertain what you are talking about.
4. What's so hard about that is we are a bureacracy.
With I disagree that we SHOULD be.

5. Reasonable inference. You made a reference to a combat procedure, where the lead soldier ( dictator) dies, his second in command (dictator's exec) takes over. :doh
So we are a military dictatorship then by that logic.

The President (dictator) dies, his second in command (vice-president) takes over. :doh

1. Sure, that was why you came up with something completely illogical.
2. The only difference is that when someone this high up err's, bad things can happen.
3. Each isolated phrase corresponds to the number.
4. No, if the POTUS was at one point a soldier of some sort, then you could call us one, but a military dicatorshpi with principles of sorts.

1. Sure, that was why you came up with something completely illogical.
So you believe an alien invasion is illogical. I disagree.

2. The only difference is that when someone this high up err's, bad things can happen.
But what DID happen?

3. Each isolated phrase corresponds to the number.
But you fail to isolate anything.

4. No, if the POTUS was at one point a soldier of some sort, then you could call us one, but a military dicatorshpi with principles of sorts.
You realize the Irony of this?

Go do some research on the backgrounds of our 44 presidents.... :doh

YES!

Both the affair and being AWOL involve a critical lack of self-control and judgement I do not want displayed in a city, state, or national official.

I disagree with you on the adultery, but I have to hand it to you. You are being quite honest, and not giving him a pass just because he belongs to the same political party you do. I respect that.

You're absolutely right.

He's a real person.

He's a real person that went derelict in his duty.

So he should resign, just like other real people have to do, unless they like seeing the word "fired" on their employment record.

I'd support a move to impeach the guy if he doesn't have the decency to step down.

When is the next time this guy is going to have a "real person" moment?

You would not really want an addict in office. This guy was poonswaggled so bad he flew over five thousand miles for a fix.

She is smoking though.

1. I think it is unlikely at the current time.

2. This time nothing. Next time....lets not wait to find out.

3. When I create a space between each sentence or paragraph, thats the isolation, as shown above in the quoted region.

4. Do you realize our current President wasn't a soldier. LOOK BEYOND THE WORDS. Do You Honestly Think I don't know which presidents have had military careers? Since the beginning we've had military POTUS's, and several such as Ike got elected for them.

It is amazing to read calls for his resignation because he no longer is the stereotypical plastic politician. Damn, he's human. Can't have that. Everyone knows politicians must consist only of slogans and photo opt imagry.

So he should resign, just like other real people have to do, unless they like seeing the word "fired" on their employment record.
Clinton didn't have to resign. Many of them didn't HAVE to resign. They chose to. Stupidly IMO.

I'd support a move to impeach the guy if he doesn't have the decency to step down.
I would not support a move to impeach him.

When is the next time this guy is going to have a "real person" moment?
Did Clinton have a 'next time'?

No, and if he did we didn't know about it, and weren't harmed by it.

2. This time nothing. Next time....lets not wait to find out.
I think that is up to the people of South Carolina.
However I don't believe there will be a next time. Now that it is all out there I would contend that he would tell everyone where he is going, leave a contact number, and go. I don't see him making that mistake again.
When you are trying to hide cheating, your head isn't right. Now that all this weight is lifted off his shoulders, im certain he'll be much better off.

4. Do you realize our current President wasn't a soldier. LOOK BEYOND THE WORDS. Do You Honestly Think I don't know which presidents have had military careers? Since the beginning we've had military POTUS's, and several such as Ike got elected for them.
So we were a military dictatorship in the past then?

Clinton didn't have to resign. Many of them didn't HAVE to resign. They chose to. Stupidly IMO.

Sure he had to.

He had a duty to serve the country, he rejected that option in favor of serving himself. Which is something one expects of a pig rapist.

I would not support a move to impeach him.

He was derelict in his duty.

Did Clinton have a 'next time'?

Yes.

Marc Rich pardon, for one example for the nearly two years he continued to stain the office.

No, and if he did we didn't know about it, and weren't harmed by it.

Yes. He committed more crimes, and we do know about them and we were harmed by them.

You're struck with this sudden surge of moral equivalency because....? Not to mention that you chose a wierd icon, since Clinton was the most corrupt president to ever occupy the White House.

Well, I was a teenager at the time and I recall I went from living in a cracker jack box to living in a 3500sq foot home on 5 acres of land during that time. I can't imagine how we were hurt during his Presidency.

Okay, so here's the thing.

I hold people running for elected office to a higher standard than I hold my neighbors or anyone else.

They're aspiring to a position of trust, and they damn well have to act trustworthy if they succeed in ascending to that position.

If they prove they're not worthy of the trust thousands and often millions of people gave them to put them in that office, those thousands and millions have every right to expect that person to leave the office they've fouled.

If we are completely unwilling to do something as insist public officials LIVE their lives to higher standards, how do we expect anything to improve in our elected officials and our government?

So, you accept corruption at the highest national levels because you got a prize from a box of Crackerjacks.

Wonderful.

You've no objection to a president that rapes, so long as you moved up.

Great.

So you are critical of the personal lives of politicians.

Thats fine.

However you have to take into consideration that people's personal and professional lives don't always blend in together.

I am a completely different person on the streets than I am in my house.

Being in law enforcement I think I understand what can sometimes constitute a "rape". (80% of the rape cases I have investigated are bull**** drunken nights of later regret).

I don't recall Clinton receiving a guilty verdict in any felony rape charges against him.

I see what you mean. His feelings are real. If he expressed those feelings privately to his friends, confidants, I wouldn't think anything of it. But the Associated Press? So his wife, his 3 sons could hear this? Are you kidding me? That incredibly poor judgment speaks horribly about his leadership capabilities.

I think that is up to the people of South Carolina.

I can live with that. He isnt my state governor after all.

It should be noted he was only honest about it after being cornered in an airport by a reporter.

She knew about this 5 months ago aps.

Well gee, he JUST GOT BACK from Argentina. I don't get what your argument there is.

So you are critical of the personal lives of politicians.

Yeah.

I explained why.

Explain your failure to hold the people taking your tax dollars to a higher standard.

However you have to take into consideration that people's personal and professional lives don't always blend in together.

Sure I did.

If they can't handle public live, get out.

I am a completely different person on the streets than I am in my house.

Were you elected to be a street walker?
