It stopped being a private matter when he went missing.

Then the issue isn't his affair, it's disappearing for a week. Would you still be wanting him to resign if he really had been hiking?
The Makeout Hobo is real, and does indeed travel around the country in his van and make out with ladies... If you meet the Makeout Hobo, it is customary to greet him with a shot of whiskey and a high five (if you are a dude) or passionate makeouts (if you are a lady).

Probably. Disappearing without notice when you are the CEO of a state is simply inconceivable.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

I believe now that he should resign, but not because he had an affair. He basically went AWOL from his governorship for over a week, without telling anybody where he was. What if there had been a disaster? What if there had been a terrorist attack? He should resign, not due to adultery, but because he performed his job in a grossly irresponsible and reckless manner.

Yes, he is the executive of the State and must be more mindful of his position, than simply not showing-up for work. Of course, had he been hiking, his staff and security would have probably actually known his whereabouts.

What is so funny about it?

I used to be hard on people for smoking cigarettes, calling them "nicotine slaves" and other such nonsense when I was a teenager.

    I now smoke cigarettes.

Does my example illustrate my point any?

The time period keeps getting longer and longer and longer.

In a few more days I'll be hearing he went AWOL for a month.

Are 5 days less than, equal to, or greater than one week?

5 days are a work week. Unless you're a cop. Then, he missed more than a week.

    YES!

Both the affair and being AWOL involve a critical lack of self-control and judgement I do not want displayed in a city, state, or national official.
