Lets just cut to the chase tuck

On behalf of the 1996 Chicago Bulls, we apologize for Slavery.

(seriously, the announcer guy from the 90's Bulls team should do the apology dubbed over the intro music. I can see it now "At Guard, from North CAROLINA, Michaaaael JORDAN....apologizes for Slavery")
    You down with TPP?

If you owned a slave, and if you have true remorse for doing so, you should then apologize to any of those slaves that you can find.

Else, any such apology is is meaningless.

I think an appropriate apology for slavery would be worded like this:

Gee, I'm really sorry that the parents of your ancestors valued little glass beads more than their own children. But aren't you glad you're here instead of there? If you're not glad, when are you leaving?

I think the government does owe anyone who had ancestor slaves at least the courtesy of safe passage back to Africa if they so choose. And because I am a humanitarian at heart, I think we should also offer a condom to protect them from AIDS, a sign for the women that lets the men who have AIDS there know she isn't a virgin so not a cure for their AIDS if they rape her, a canteen full of fresh drinking water because it might be the last they get, a week's rations to get them started because their Visa cards won't be accepted at the market, and a can of Raid for when the flys start swarming around them and their children. Perhaps even a submachine gun for when the warlords come raiding the village.

Otherwise, they can stay here and appreciate the fact that they were spared all that.

Why, did the government exist in the 1600 and 1700's when the majority of them were imported? More importantly, did the government ever run a slave transport company?

Even if we lived in a monarchy the Queen or King would not be responsible for what one their inbred ancestors di and therefore would have nothing to apologize for. Even if we lived in a dictatorship our government wouldn't be responsible for the actions of those before them.

Since the government represents the people then all the government would need to do is sign some piece of paper saying they apologize for slavery.

If thats the way to make it official then I guess thats what would have to be done. Maybe use tax breaks or something else as a bribe to get people to sign it.
EXACTLY You just said the government just needs to sign some piece of paper that appologizes for slavery. That is exactly what I am saying, and nothing more.

The government aka we the people do not need to apologize for something the government aka we didn't do. I do not want the government apologizing because the government apologizing is really we the tax payers apologizing for **** we had nothing to do with and its a waste of our employees have better **** to do than to offer bull **** feel good bogus apologies to people who are no longer here.

"A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murder is less to fear"

    Sorry!
I would have to own a slave or two before I could tell you whether I disliked it enough to be sorry for it.
