Some people want exclusivity to minimize the risk of STDs, especially if they prefer sex without condoms. They also probably don't want to have to care for somebody else's kid if sombody gets you pregnant.

On a less rational level, people are enamored with this idea of two people being soulmates and not needing anybody else in that way. It makes people feel inadequate if you require others for sexual gratification.

Personally Id like to have a multiperson relationship. I have seen it work before, but I havent had one. Though I would have to be the only male as Im not bisexual. I am serious about my current partner, though, and Im not willing to give her up in order to have a multiperson relationship, and shes not bi, but shes great in every other way. ((:
I think you're right about the soulmate thing. People tend to romanticize that concept a lot. It comes from centuries of literature glorifying the idea that there is only one person out there that is perfect for each one of us. I think we have more than one soulmate and that we can have wonderful relationships that don't necessarily last a lifetime.

i don't actually believe in soulmates, which is a bit of a sticking point for me and my boyfriend. He believes in them, and I don't. I'm far more pragmatic, I think there are many people in the course of our lifetimes with whom we could have compatible longterm relationships, the thing is to stick with one and make it work.

Love is not the feeling that holds a relationship together. Love is the feeling that results from holding a relationship together.

    No.

You can buy them, but you can't sell them. You can't give them away once they're used.

Actually, love is the ACTION it takes to hold it together. It's keeping on when you don't feel like keeping on.

And you REALLY understand this concept when you have children. Trust me, there are plenty of times I haven't felt like being a mom. I do it anyway.

Love is the feeling that makes you want to have a relationship in the first place. Love is the result not of the relationship but the beginning of it. Love grows and the bound grows as we hold that relationship together.

Actually, I think the first feeling is infatuation. Love is when infatuation develops into something more mature and enduring.

It really is just a look at first that grows into something more. Do you believe in love at first sight?
