Actually they don't because they emit vapor rather than smoke.

I've heard there have been some big arguments in restaurants over them. The customers complaining and manager telling the person to stop or leave, and the person refusing to leave unless then they don't have to pay for the meal. If they pay they get to stay or if they have to leave then why should they pay? The electronic cigarette isn't a cigarette. What do you think?
I think a lot of people get confused. If a person is going to smoke an electronic cigarette indoors they are probably doing so to push buttons. I don't think it's really appropriate because while it isn't smoke it does have a distinct odor. It's nowhere near as bad or room-filling as cigarette smoke, but it is there.

It does smell, though it's not as bad as a cigarette and it goes away quite quickly. The smoke is actually a vapor that disappears after a few seconds.

    E-cigarettes

The electronic cigarette has been banned in many countries. The FDA has banned import of E-cigs and with the help of a rabid ex-smoker Democrat in Congress is pushing for a total ban. They claim since it can’t be proven it helps people stop smoking then it should be banned. Damn G-control freaks. Diet coke doesn’t help people stop smoking either. It isn’t about stopping smoking.

I never have smoked in the house out of respect for my wife and children in our future, though she never asked me to. When I showed up with my e-cig (SST longs) and e-cigar set, she was clearly pleased. The nicotine rush was great and surprising. I smoke ultra light cigarettes and what I had gotten was 16 mg cartridges, the strongest SST offers. I found I had instantly cut my cigarette smoking by 75% without trying

As a surprise, she rushed of and returned with an beautiful walnut electronic pipe with matching hand carved walnut base holder. Then she bought what is considered the mother of all e-cigarettes, the “Screwdriver.” Luckily the place in the USA that sells those is less than an hour away. She also ordered 8 mini e-cigs with 200! Mega 36 mg nicotine cartridges plus supplies, 10 bottles of 36 mg nicotine e-cig liquid, 8 e-cigs for herself with 100 2 mg cartridges, 5 bottles of 4 mg nicotine liquid, and a mini SST dual set at 2 mg nicotine for herself (she doesn’t smoke). In a day we had spent nearly $2,000 on e-cigarette type stuff. Enough supplies to last for years. But I had already spent over a thousand dollars stocking up on cigs before next extra $1 a pack tax hits on July 1st in my state.

The screwdriver is complicated, doesn’t look like a cigarette and allows you to fill it however you wish – from maximum smoke (steam) to pre-heating (not having to first draw) to any range of nicotine from zero to off the chart high. Most would guess you’re smoking pot or hash for how it looks.

She looked so content as I sat “smoking” my electronic pipe in our cozy cabin in the woods. I don’t care for a pipe hanging from my mouth but it makes her happy.

Anyone who wants to cut back on smoking should give electronic cigarettes a try. Skip the cheap ones and go for an SST or other Club 151 brand. Get the longer SST or Club 51s as they last much longer due to larger batteries. If you get into it then you might want to add some of the small cheap ones to just leave laying around or when you want something smaller. It won’t make you quit but it will cut back your tobacco smoking – meaning the tar that causes cancer.

Between rabid ex-smokers who want everything banned having to do with nicotine, drug companies that sell extremely expensive stop-smoking prescription drugs (that don’t work) and the tobacco industry, it is very likely the e-cigarette is going to soon be banned in the USA by Congress and the FDA.

I quit smoking 3 years ago and every now and again I'll have a puff or two from an e-cig. Though, technically it really doesn't count as the fluid that I put in it has no nicotine.

Amen to that. Like I said, I think a lot of people do it only to push buttons. I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable smoking an e-cig in a non-smoking restaurant. Hell, I never really felt that comfortable smoking real cigarettes in restaurants or indoor public places that allowed smoking.

I smoke, but I'm not addicted.
The cigarette is addicted to me.

And I'm all in favor of raising taxes on tobacco - it sucks and it's cancer, and I can't stand a woman that smokes.

    Re: Tobacco

I used to smoke and quit cold turkey about 5 years ago.

I do still use tobacco, one cigarette for morning prayers, one for evening prayers.

The tobacco is a mixture of knicknick (Indian tobacco, no nicotine), red willow, sweetgrass and a bit of bear root. They don't have nicotine in them, but are considered medicines. Each of those plants used differently has a medicinal property.

My people were hunter gatherers, but one thing we actually did cultivate, was tobacco. It was and still is central to many ceremonies. The smoke purifies and takes our prayers to Creator. Tobacco is pretty important, culturally and spiritually.

The tobacco tax is used for CHIPS here. It provides healthcare to children, so I have no problem with it.
