Minn. lawmaker vows not to complete CensusOutspoken Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann says she's so worried that information from next year's national census will be abused that she will refuse to fill out anything more than the number of people in her household.

In an interview Wednesday morning with The Washington Times "America's Morning News," Mrs. Bachmann, Minnesota Republican, said the questions have become "very intricate, very personal" and she also fears ACORN, the community organizing group that came under fire for its voter registration efforts last year, will be part of the Census Bureau's door-to-door information collection efforts.

"I know for my family the only question we will be answering is how many people are in our home," she said. "We won't be answering any information beyond that, because the Constitution doesn't require any information beyond that."

Shelly Lowe, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Census Bureau, said Mrs. Bachmann is "misreading" the law.

Article 1, Section 2, The House
actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct.

So, who will fill out the "whole" census, and who will fill out the part the Constitution actually requires, the head count?

I don't see that the federal government, or anyone else, needs to know how many TV's I have, how many refrigerators, how many shoes, how many condoms, and all that other snooping bs.

Nope, the government needs to know that there's three Americans and one foreign national (legal) living in my house, and that's it.

How about you? Are you going to feed Uncle Messiah's demand for unlimited access to your personal information?

(BTW, it says THE CONGRESS shall conduct the census, not the White House.)

And there's no point in hiring ACORN to participate in collecting the census. They'll have to send a second team of honest people along behind them to count again, anyway.

Yep...god damn "Uncle Messiah" for creating the US Census Bureau and approving all the questions they want to ask! Heck, I had almost forgotten how non-intrusive the 2000 census was, prior to Obama's meddling! This time will certainly be worse, and it's all because of "Uncle Messiah."

(By the way, I think "Uncle Messiah" is an improvement from your referring to him as "The Messiah." It's nice that you're at least honest about your venomous racism. Personally I suggest you combine all of your favorite nicknames for him, to get the full effect from your racism. I suggest Uncle-The-Kenyan-Messiah.)

You do?

I guess you never read Heinlein's Farmham's Freehold.

Why not, unless you have something to hide? :doh

Because it's no one's business, whether it's something that should be hidden or not.

What if I had a secret TV addiction and owned 92 TV's? Why should I have to report that to anyone?

Since neither options represent my view and both options require agreeing with the OP poster whichever you pick I didn't respond.

Due to the large percentage of mixed race people added to there is no way a person can know their racial ancestry for certain, the question of what race are you should be eliminated. A national racial identity registry would seem unconstitutional.

Problem #154 with political forum members: they care. About everything. Even when nobody else does.

i cant wait to fill in the race part...

saxon/American/Jew;)

I hate it when some survey asks me whether I am Hispanic or white. There are Hispanics who are 100% white, you know....

I just say I'm descended from Africa.

Who can argue with that one?

That my ancestors came to the US from Africa by way of very long stops at Ireland and Germany is beside the point.

I had to click yes because of the 3/5ths of a person joke.

Edited to add: I think I'm taking that african stance as well.

All they need to know is how many people live in my house. The rest is none of their concern. So if I get the long form (and most people do not) I will not fill it out.

Someone claiming to be a census taker came by, only asked how many families in our home. They probably already know everything else...

Technically, you are right. There is not much I can really hide. It just makes me feel better. I always get the short form anyway.

So, you don't support any right to privacy, right? And you also should have no objection to domestic spying, racial profiling, etc. Remember the importance of logical consistency.

Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't most of the questions optional?

Probably. I'm uncomfortable that they'd even ask such questions in the census. And of course, like any good Freeman, I have and instinctive distrust of government.

But then how's it different from any other pollster, though?

Well, most professional polls are more or less anonymous. they are also generally narrow in focus (at least the ones I've encountered.)

Also answering specific question asked by somber who cannot investigate, audit, or in other way harass one has a somewhat different flavor.

Finally, I usually don't participate in major polls either.
