I'm sorry, but it is utterly impossible to successfully plan a major war in less than a week.

That is a work of fiction. In the real world, you cannot successfully plan a major war in less than a week.

This implies that they will inevitably start shelling South Korean cities unless we kill millions of people in a nuclear holocaust. That seems far from certain.
Just to say, but I assume that our military already has a plan to invade North Korea, even if they aren't telling us about that.

I know we already have a plan to invade Iran, but they at least told us about that.

We should have done what we needed to do under Truman. All he needed to do was listen to his General and Nuke the Chinese back a few hundred years. No N Korea, and no Chinese Dragon trying to replace us on the world stage.

Odds are that all the critical/important targets are programmed into several computers...
How many missles does NK have? Those would be the weapons that need to be taken out first, right after the airburst EMP....

War with CHINA? That would be an insane idea. They have enough soldiers, even back then to make us lose any direct fight with China.

Not to mention that diplomatically, that could have caused us to lose the Cold War. Luckily for us, China and the USSR weren't very close, Nixon was smart to establish real relations with them. If they had teamed up with the USSR then we would have been in a big trouble.

When it comes to nations confronting us during the Cold War, don't group all Communist nations on the same level.

in the fifties we had Nucs they didnt, we could have basically reinstalled the Taiwanese goverment if we had the right President in charge.

    Elaborate.

If we did the job in the fifties, China would have been a Democratic Nation on our side.

They arent the same level, China was weak while the USSR was strong.

They arent the same level, China was weak while the USSR was strong.
If we could actually invade China and reinstate the Nationalists then it would work out in the long run of the Cold War.

But after the Japanese's trouble, the scale of the operation, and Truman's low aproval rating (JUST from the Korean War) I don't think we would have pulled it off. and it wouldn't have been worth the risk of getting China more hostile towards us.

In the 50s there isn't much China could of done to harm us outside of that immediet region, but it could of gotten much more difficult if China teamed up with the USSR more afterwards when China gained some more strength.

I suppose I am just contemplating, but from what I have heard, one of the main reason that we won the Cold War was the lack of cooperation between the USSR and China.

But there is a big difference between having a contingency plan for an emergency, and just throwing together the plans for a major war of choice in a matter of one week.

Which would work. No country in the world can possibly get ready for war in one week, except the war started, who has that entire week to prepare. Everyone else just feels the pain. And if we did a covert first strike into their country, very fast, victory would be assured. We have to hit first, hard, and fast. Which we can do.
