1)PH was a huge change in national stance but the long term ramifications of a growing influence in the middle east has yet to be seen all due to 911.

The national security communcation upgrades are truly amazing.

We are in a much bettter position to influence changes in nations of the middle east. (Nations that have great power over the US primary source of energy) than ever before. Any person of wit can look at a map and see how the US influence has vastly expanded.

2)OMG the kid gloves have been in full effect since the 60s. I would say rightly so in most case considering there could be
GAP strip malls from the caspian sea to the Gulf of Aden right now if the right/wrong people got serious.
