    Revolution?

What do you think the chances are? How long do you think it will take to get to this state, will it happen in our life time? Will you declare yourself a traitor and a terrorist and fight against government? or will you be a loyalist? I ask becuse there is a lot going on and this seems to be a reoccuring message going out. Lets talk about this, because it may be a ery real possibility.

    Re: Revolution?

Young people have been talking about revolution my whole life. People bitch, it's what they do. It's a big stretch from bitching about the government, to committing to an action that will result in thousands to hundreds of thousands of dead, and is probably futile.

Americans are to complacent. They talk big but when push comes to shove they let the revolution pass them by. The 70's may have been our last best chance of revolution. It died on the vine.

I really do think that Americans are afraid of the idea. They have revolution confused with terrorism and can't get the concepts straight.

According to Jefferson, you need not call yourself such after a certain threshold has been crossed, because you are then merely exerting your rights against what is no longer a legitimate government.

Indeed, at such a pass, it isn't a "government" at all, but a criminal enterprise at best.

Terrorist is the wrong term. You become a revolutionary. Then you start a revolution. All revolution is not violent. Some is non violent. We need not bomb things or kill to revolt. Our views are skewed. Ghandi and Che were revolutionaries one violent one not.

I get positively giddy when we agree!

A good example of a non-violent Revolution in our own history would be Women's Suffrage, I think.

Mark it down on the calendar. Miracles do happen. Hugs.

Women's suffrage would be one yes.

    Re: Revolution?

Here is my theory on this. Marx said that before Communism could exist two things had to occur basically. First, capitalism had to conquere the globe, and this is very close to being a reality. Second, societies had to evolve through different forms of government.
That is to say the evolution of government is: feudalism->industrialization->capitalism->socialism->communism. Europe is ahead of the game as they are older and already in socialism.

Our government is designed to be conservative, so we are moving slowly toward socialism, this is being accepted because it is creeping incrementally, thus people gripe but do not react. China and Russia attempted to bypass some of the steps and have had to backtrack, but we are all on the same path ultimately.

This being said, I feel when this country reaches socialism and begins to move more toward communist, a revolution will occur. If not, the revolution described by Marx will occur for sure.

Nice post. My hope is to see socialism come without a violent revolution. Socialism comes through capitalism and democracy. It is an evolutionary process. The US is far away as there are to many people steeped in greed.

    Eventually it will come.

    Your questions presuppose much.

Armed rebellion occurs when the evils of government are no longer sufferable, to borrow from Jefferson. It occurs at that juncture when there is no longer an effective avenue for redress of grievance.

Humanity being imperfect, and thus given to imperfect institutions of government, it is not hard to contemplate that our government eventually reach that point, where it has lost its credibility and its legitimacy. To say there will be a rebellion in the far off future does not require a crystal ball, merely an understanding of history and human nature.

However, despite all the problems, issues, and myriad flaws in government today, rebellion now would be not merely foolish and futile, but also unwarranted. The people still retain the power of the ballot, still retain the right to petition for redress of grievance, still have the power to alter the path of government without altering the form of government. All that is wrong today people can fix without resorting to revolution.

Will there be a rebellion? Assuredly so. Will it be soon? Most unlikely. Is there a need for one now? Absolutely not (yet).
