Which one of these people is the biggest asshat in GOP? Or in other words, who does the best job at making the GOP look bad?

1. Michael Steele
2. Bobby Jindal
3. Sarah Palin
4. George W. Bush
5. Eric Cantor
6. John Boehner
7. Mitt Romney
8. John McCain
9. Other

I respect the GOP, and I want it to do well (I guess ). But right now, there just seems to be too many people on the right who are making the party look bad, like Steele, Jindal, Palin, Bush and others.

I would pick Steele since he's an idiot. This guy is just out of control. He makes comments like he owns the Republican party and then swiftly apologizes to the person it concerns. First it was against Limbaugh and now against Romney. When the hell does it end?

Obviously it's George Bush, hands-down. No one else on your list ever caused as much damage or discredited the Republican agenda more than George Bush.

Jindal, Palin, Romney, and McCain are/were actually good governors/senators for their states. Steele seems ill-suited to the job of RNC Chairman, but in terms of his politics he doesn't really bother me. I don't know much about Cantor. John Boehner is a total buffoon, yes, but he doesn't come anywhere close to George Bush for sheer destructive power.

In terms of who has done the GOP the most harm, I would have to say president Bush. I am not at all sure that Obama would be president without Bush dragging the whole republican party down.

In terms of biggest asshat in general, it has to be Steele. The guy really needs to stop and think before he speaks.

I feel bad for the republicans right now. I honestly believe that republicans as a rule want to make the country a better place, same as most democrats...they just differ in how they think it should be done. I may disagree with republicans, but I respect any one who works to make the country better. As such, they deserve better than what their party leadership is giving them(come to think of it, same is true with democrats). It seems to be an almost daily thing that some named republican opens his mouth and says something really foolish politically.

the problem isn't the people on the right.

It's the liberals, aka "moderates", that have done the damage to the GOP.

Bush
Mitt Romney
McCain

for the most part.

If I choose other, do I have to name him? He might be a well known member of the forum.:2razz:

Sorry, Reverend Hellhound is not a Republican or GOP politician. ;)

If we're looking back as far as the election definitely Bush. As previously stated, he gave the oval office as well as both houses of congress to the dems. If we're talking current asshats, I'd have to give it to Cheney. As a person who wishes the republicans offered a viable alternative to the democrats, Cheney is currently turning me off to the GOP the most

Steele, no question.

Bush didn't make the Republicans look bad--they did that themselves by letting a congressional love of pork get the better of them when they were in the majority. Had the Republicans kept their philosophical discipline and hewed to a fiscally responsible course, the Anti-Republicans would be nothing more than an historical footnote.

It was Bush, in my estimation, but he is no longer "a player".
It's out of Gingrich, McConnell, or Boehner, as who could readily be the spokesman for the party....but they are Neanderthals, and will soon go extinct.

Mitt Romney???

Romney is a real conservative.

He went on the listening tour to get a better handle on how to run for POTUS, IMO.

I am suprised that Cheney hasn't been mentioned.

That's kinda like asking which piranha is the hungriest, but I'm going to have to vote for Uncle Dick, too.

Romney is not electable....he could be the most qualified and it wouldn't matter. The religious right will never accept Mormons as Christians.
I voted for McCain instead of Obama, but had to swallow a bit of vomit while voting. McCain dished dirt on Romney the same way Bush dished dirt on McCain in 2000. It used to be an unspoken rule, Republicans don't speak ill of other republicans, but those days are gone. Now they not only speak ill, they make up stuff.
I am surprised McCain didn't accuse Romney of being Obama's father.....

This forum is starting to look more and more similar to DU every day.

I shouldn't have put Bush, because then I would have to put Cheney. I wanted it to be current office-holding politicians only.

Romney's a flaming Masschussetts liberal that signed a bill demanding that people prove they have health insurance before they could receive their tax refund.

Ain't nothing conservative about that boy.

If Mitt Romney is really so unpopular among conservatives then ... Romney 2012!!!

I'm a bit confused. Why does that make him a liberal?

I really mean no disrespect, be we are allowed to award people "asshat of the year" yet not make a simple joke about a similar thing. It reminds me of this Limbaugh vs. Sykes thing. I'm sorry if that sounds rude but I just had to be honest.

Anyway I apologize for that comment, it will not happen again. I was not intending for the thread to go in any other direction.

I disapprove of Eric Cantor, Mitt Romney, John McCain, and George W. Bush. I mildly approve of Michael Steele and John Boehner, and I moderately approve of Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.

Frankly, I hope the future of the GOP rests in the hands of Mark Sanford. In 2006 I wrote an article arguing that Sanford and Palin were the future of the GOP. I was excited to see Palin nominated by the McCain campaign. I still think Palin is a great leader, however I was utterly dismayed over her slobbering support of the Stimulus package after coming out against TARP. Hypocrisy undermines any faith we can have in a politicians core principles.
