I know, it is a bore when someone points out when you're being inanely hypocritical on an issue. Let me see your reasoning here it seems...

"Well, the Left was correct, and so its okay for us to protest, and its okay for us not to protest now, and its okay for us to insult your protest now, because the Left is correct and the Right is wrong".

Wow, amazing logic there. Yes, however could I not have just nodded and obviously agreed with you. Its obvious now, yep. Its completley just hypocritical republicans and angelic democrats, we need to just all open our eyes to the most wonderous and perfect views and solutions of the Great Barack Obama.

Huh??

Tell me how I'm being hypocritical, Zyphlin.

I think you just want to banter.

I like that the right is protesting. Get it together, figure out how to join voices. March for what you believe in. I think it's great....really, I do. I believe that coming together is what creates change. I'm not against protesting.

If you expect me, a progressive, to get in your line with what the protest was about, well that ain't gonna happen.

I don't agree with what the protest was about.....what was it about, again....taxes, socialism, abortion????

I think the timing of it was disingenuous.
I think calling something a grassroots effort that was funded by lobbyists and think tanks is disingenuous.

I also think the whole thing was really funny.

Go Team!

I know the Right doesn't have much know-how when it comes to protests. Maybe after a few years of protest practice you guys will get really good at it and piss me off

I agree, but I talked to this lady and she wasn't a moron. She didn't realize that she had spelled it wrong on the sign and was embarrassed. She knew more of what is going on than I anticipated after having witnessed the sign. I also loved her t-shirt.

Some people find it richly humorous if a protester carries a sign with a misspelled word, as if that discredits everything that citizen believes in.

I disagree. I would rather see homemade posters which people individually thought up - than a boring sea of red or blue commercial signs.

I know very smart people who misspell words, and it doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

It's really not up to you to say when we should draw the line about taxes since you don't think taxes are ever too high!

And, no, we have not had socialism in this country "for decades". But that is where we are headed now ie. auto, banking, health care.

Bush was too fiscally liberal for my tastes (and for a lot of other conservatives). I was against the bailouts from day 1. It's not "all of a sudden that it's worth protesting" - the things that we're protesting are recent developments!
Hi, I was just reading these posts and yours stood out for me.
I find this fear of socialism (in evil red font!) amusing. Europe runs on a Socialist model, the result? Excellent social welfare for those who need it and accessible medical care. Noone is dying because of our socialism, there's no panic in the streets, there is, however, a greater access to services. We pay higher taxes but that money dosen't simply disappear down a black hole, it comes back to us in the form of essential services. People do not get turned away from hospitals in Europe, they do in America. Why do Americans hate the idea of government so much? Its your government, noone else's. The idea of this red menace is absurd. Britain is ruled by the socialist Labour party in case you haven't noticed. Denmark and Sweden boast superb quality of life and advanced social models thanks to their socialist governing. Socialism does not have to be such a dirty word.

Come now. You want to sing the praises of socialism, you need to take the good with the bad, no?

Tell me, I hear rationed health care, means if you ain't rich, you wait in line....

Is this correct?

As for "quality of debate", perhaps you should check yourself my friend.

No one gets turned away from a hospital in the US. This is wrong. factually incorrect.

There's a private tier, which is affordable. You don't have to be rich.
There's a public tier, which is free (or in some countries, heavily subsidised).
True, there are longer waiting times on the public tier but everyone is still treated. It's a little rich to see an American scold a European because those in free public healthcare have to go on a waiting list for some procedures. If you ain't rich in America, you don't even get a waiting list. You get shown the door. No insurance, not treatment. People actually die because they cannot afford health care. So I'll take my waiting list and be happy with it. Also, the waiting list only applies to some procedures and specialised appointments. You will not die in a queue. I may even buy health insurance, in Europe I do not have to be rich to do that.

So people don't come to the US for medical procedures they have to wait years for in europe?

And once again, you are wrong. Show me Americans who have died from no insurance.

You can not be turned down in the US for life treatening health issues.

Hell an emergency room can not turn you down for most things. You are making it up as you go along!

I'll wait.

I've got the feeling that we're both pulling sensational instances out of the bag to justify our positions. Your examples, like mine, probably do not represent accurately our respective systems. That's the problem with haste and reaching a conclusion before googling. I'm going to stop because I don't think either of us are going to convince the other in the next 45 minutes, I'm not arguing for arguments sake.
I will finish with this small summation of my point:
If I'm poor I get free healthcare, If I fall seriously ill tomorrow I get free healthcare, one thing I never need to worry about is healthcare and what happens when I fall ill.

Same thing in the US.

I'll take what is [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicaid]Medicaid[/ame] and SCHIP for $500 bucks, jack.

You have been wrong since you decided to start posting my european friend. :2wave:

Backing out is probably the most noble of persuits at this juncture.

I wasn't going to continue but considering you have handed me so much evidence to support my point, how could I resist.

From the wikipedia entry:
"Being poor, or even very poor, does not necessarily qualify an individual for Medicaid.[2] It is estimated that approximately 60 percent of poor Americans are not covered by Medicaid."

According to the CMS website, "Medicaid does not provide medical assistance for all poor persons. Even under the broadest provisions of the Federal statute (except for emergency services for certain persons), the Medicaid program does not provide health care services, even for very poor persons, unless they are in one of the designated eligibility groups."

"Typically, poor people who are HIV positive must progress to AIDS (T-cell count less than 200) before they can qualify under the "disabled" category."

That last one is awful.

Listen pal, I'm leaving this. Good luck.

I disagree with you but I have shown you respect.
Grow up.

So now you are interested in the topic of the thread?

You responded to his post that wasn't even directed at you. And how did you respond? Oh yeah, laughing about dead Parisians. At least those people didn't die in vain. They have been memorialized by helping you troll a dead thread.

Why do you feel the need to bully and run new members out of here?

Do you care about this forum?

Is it overpopulated and you are doing us a service?

So he believes in socialism. A lot of people do. It doesn't give you a license to act like a jerk to people.

So now you are interested in the topic of the thread?

I wasn't the one who derailed it with an off topic post about America bad socialist europe good.

You responded to his post that wasn't even directed at you. And how did you respond? Oh yeah, laughing about dead Parisians. At least those people didn't die in vain. They have been memorialized by helping you troll a dead thread.

Lie #1, I was laughing at the notion of the european socialist utopia.

The thread was on "new posts", I did not troll, and responded to a post in a public forum, Lie #2

Why do you feel the need to bully and run new members out of here?

Lie #3

I do no such thing.

Do you care about this forum?

Inapropriate trolling.

Is it overpopulated and you are doing us a service?

inapropriate trolling

But his license to be a jerk is ok to you? Selectivity noted.

I sincerely hope this guy dosen't represent the quality of debate on these forums.

Post #83. He attacked me. He got what he gave. He resurected this thread, completley off topic I might ad and he was a jerk to me.

BTW, Are you attacking me as a poster, or are you attaking me as a mod?

Furthermore, who have I ever tried to run off. You sir, are lying.

Fact. He was a jerk to me, I treated him exactly how he treated me.

Your selective outrage is duly noted, the appropriate respose is to apologize :2wave:

Yes, all the pork in the stimulus pkg. It started with protests against "porkulus", lol, and grew from there. People are also angry about the bailouts and wealth redistribution, plus the trillions in the 2010 budget. Just that everything is getting too far-reaching and success is being punished while screw-ups are being rewarded (with our tax money). We're fed up.

Some of the history is here:
Instapundit

Funny....why weren't you protesting against "wealth redistribution" when GWB started taking money from the poor and middle class and "redistributing" it to his wealthy base?

McBlog: Richest 400 people in U.S. increased their wealth by $670 billion under GWB

Since President Bush has been in office, nearly 6 million Americans have slipped into poverty, median family income for working Americans has declined by more than $2,000, more than 7 million Americans have lost their health insurance, over 4 million have lost their pensions, foreclosures are at an all time high, total consumer debt has more than doubled, and we have a national debt of over $9.7 trillion dollars.
While the middle class collapses, the richest people in this country have made out like bandits and have not had it so good since the 1920s. The top 0.1 percent now earn more money than the bottom 50 percent of Americans, and the top 1 percent own more wealth than the bottom 90 percent. The wealthiest 400 people in our country saw their wealth increase by $670 billion while Bush has been president. In the midst of all of this, Bush lowered taxes on the very rich so that they are paying lower income tax rates than teachers, police officers or nurses.
