Post When Will We Have 100% Inflation?

As most of you already know, Obama and Congress have imposed massive spending bills and programs that have stretched our long term debt obligations to $85 trillion. The question is how will we pay for it.

Even huge tax increases will not cover this massive sum.

The only way we can pay our debt to china and other bondholders is to print more federal reserve notes, which of course, are not backed with anything more than a "promise" we cannot even keep. Some day, we could follow 1920's Germany, Mexico, Argentina, and Zimbabwe down the road to hyper-inflation.

Already, some nations are wanting to change from American dollars to another currency for international trade.

Because of the current recession, I am expecting money to hold its value for the next year or two. But after that, who knows?

The question is: When do you think inflation of the American dollar will reach 100% or more (lose at least half its value) in a single year?

10% is already happening. 20% seems likely at this point. 30% is a bit of a stretch, but not too improbable. 40% is very unlikely. 50% is a worst-case scenario.
The fact is that we won't see the debt disappear in our lifetimes, so paying it all off is hardly the issue. Still, we're probably going to see inflation of unprecedented levels in this country soon enough.

It never will, mostly because the Fed can take it out of the system as easily as put dollars in. Originally, i was taken back by the purchasing of MBS, but after analysis, even if those assets fell to .02 on the dollar, they do have more than enough fire power to raise interest rates to double digits.

IMHO 5% inflation is raping the public. If you really believe inflation is going to reach those levels, purchase TIPS and gold mining stocks/etfs.
It is not very unreasonable that the rich should contribute to the public expense, not only in proportion to their revenue, but something more than in that proportion.

Agreed. If we see a repeat of the inflation similar to the Carter/Reagan years, the Fed will likely repeat what Volcker did: create an artificial recession via high interest rates and sucking money out of the economy.

Post Re: When Will We Have 100% Inflation?

As I said earlier, because of the current recession, I'm not expecting any serious inflation for the next two years. And we could probably go four or five before it hits.

The question is WHEN will (not if) China and other creditors cash in massive numbers of their chips (bonds)?

Shortly after Ron Paul gets elected, which will be right before monkeys fly out of my ass.
