There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

He dodged your question and then called me a troll when I pointed it out. What else is new?

How trite watching you two pretend that either one of you had anything substantive to say. Lest we forget the inane comments from Cephus and think that they were serious, here is the exchange again lest you continue to wander off the topic with your baiting and trolling:

If you think Cephus was attempting to make a coherent argument, there's a bridge in Arizona I would like to sell you.

You just can't help yourself can you? Carry on.

Seriously, whilst on my Hols in Florida last year i did not meet an arrogant American. Just polite, considerate and curtius

I think the arrogance comes from a political elite extremely detracted from everyday life, living in there insular bubble oblivious to the complexities of being the world leader.

    Fine.

    Here's the plan:

All the troops are coming home. Every single one. All overseas military bases will be closed. This starts tomorrow. No more foreign wars, no more hated US military in your country, we're out of the world-policeman biz.

Oh, I'm sorry...you haven't had to provide your own security for decades because of the US, now you don't have a military worth mentioning and you're worried? Deal with it; pay for your own defense. Your local economy depends on that US air base? Too bad. Got an oppressive dictator who is threatening his neighbors, and you'd like him to be gone if you had the military might and the nerve? Sorry, we don't do that anymore, deal with it yourself. We're tired of being accused of meddling.

All foreign aid ends tomorrow. Not another penny, not for anyone. We'll gladly trade with you as long as the terms are equitable, but we are not throwing our own money out there for charity anymore. We have to put our own house in order first... and besides, you might think our aid was condecending.

Next hurricane, tsunami, earthquake? Don't expect to see a US Carrier group come to your aid. No US helicopters dropping water, food, medical supplies, tents. No billions in US emergency aid. You're on your own, we don't meddle anymore.

The next Hitler that rises to power (and there will be one, if we're not around to smack him down before he gets going), the world can deal with him without us. We'll sit WW3 out, thanks. After all, if we rode to the rescue you might think we were arrogant.

Wonder how that would go over?

    Like a lead zeppelin methinks...

Considering most of the World is subjugated by your Foreign and economic policy i,m sure it wont be as bad as all that.

And for good measure we have never been closer to WW111 because of the previous American President, just keeping things in context before the patriotic whooping takes over from intelligent reality.

That's a wonderfully insightful statement. I could make equally insightful statements about the cultural value of fish and chips, or of Susan Boyle, but we'd all take them for the irrelevant and cheap shots that they'd be.

Let's go back to my statement, which was, specifically, that the U.S. continues to be a leader in world culture. Notice I didn't say 'the' leader, but 'a' leader, which leaves open the possibility that other cultures have value as well. But just for a moment lets take your counterpoint at face value and assume that the U.S. is NOT 'a' leader in world culture... perhaps you could enlighten us as to which nations are the leaders of world culture.

I'm not so sure we the people are arrogant as much as our politicians seem to be. Our politicians portray arrogant behavior to the rest of the world and therefore the rest of the world think we the people must be arrogant as well.

The reality is that if you're bigger, stronger, and wealthier... people will consider you arrogant.

Our politicians are no different than politicians anywhere else in the world.

In terms of so-called American exceptionalism, I believe that to be arrogance.

Although, I think often, you have to have a level of arrogance, just so long as it doesn't extend towards ignorance and bullying.
