does anyone here actually care what Michelle Obama was wearing?

Do you care?

I honestly can't quite wrap my brain around the fact that *anyone* would give a ****. I realize that there are people out there that do, but I honestly feel a bit sorry for them. It's kinda sad that some people actually care what fabric other people have draped over their bodies. No offense intended toward anyone, but I seriously do find it sad.

I'm no fashion expert. Nor am I a cultural anthropologist. But it's pretty plain to anyone who takes more than a moment or two to examine any culture that 'fashion' and 'beauty' are integral to human civilization now, and have been for all of mankind's known history.

In fact, there's a pretty definitive correlation between the advancement of ancient humans' language skills and our 'fashion' sense:

Greater linguistic competence and cultural sophistication are often suggested as characteristics tilting the competitive balance in favor of upper Paleolithic groups. Finely crafted stone and bone tools, shell and ivory jewelry, and polychrome paintings found on cave walls all testify to the cultural advancement of Cro-Magnon man.
Cro-Magnon Man

Of course, some Cro-Magnon's may have scoffed at the fine shell and bone jewelry sported by other Cro-Magnon's. But it was, arguably, those Cro-Magnon's who cared about such trivial things who kept society moving ahead...

I didn't read the link because I don't care any more about what some cro-magnon wore than I do what anyone else wears.

Not sure what you're getting at. I have jewelry that I think is pretty too. But I don't give a **** if anyone else thinks it's pretty. AND, I certainly don't care what jewelry or clothing anyone else is wearing. Why on earth would? Why on earth would anyone waste time CARING what someone else is wearing?

Everyone should wear what they want for whatever reasons they want. Buy the expensive suits and dresses and jewelry if you want. But don't fool yourself into thinking that most of us are even going to notice, and even if we do, that we would bother to care.

In other words, you are determined to believe what you will no matter what evidence is presented to the contrary.

I saw a video few months ago about a woman who decided not to vote for Obama because of his name, so I dont exclude the same action from those people to abstain from voting because of his wife's clothing ..

Believe what I will about what? What I already know? That I don't care about what other people wear? Yes, I will continue to believe that I don't give two ****s what other people wear, no matter what.

Of course you don't have to care. But you also claimed not to understand why anyone else should care. Which is why I previously responded to this specific quote of yours...

I honestly can't quite wrap my brain around the fact that *anyone* would give a ****.

You claimed not to understand why anyone would think fashion is important. So I provided some factual evidence supporting why it is important. Evidence you chose to ignore. Whether you feel it's important or unimportant is an opinion, and you're entitled to it. But the evidence suggests otherwise.

No, you provided evidence that some ancient group of people liked to wear pretty necklaces. Not that they gave a **** what necklaces other people were wearing. So, it really didn't help at all for understanding why someone would waste time out of their lives actually caring what fabric is draped over someone elses body.

As long as she dresses in a respectful manner, then it is all good.

There has always been some symbolism in the way people dress. Its often a reflection of status within that society. Thats just the way its always been. People are expected to dress appropriatley for occasions and/or jobs. I just don't give a **** who's name is on the tag myself.

I actually have a plan to alter my last name slightly, to make it sound European, and then I am going to take a stitching and sewing class, $20 dollars worth of material(per purse) and make dumb ass looking purses that I will then charge American women $350 for.

Ladies I'm looking mostly at you, but guys if you're the kind of guy that cares what other people wear, feel free to vote too.

Because Jesus Christ, the media (and pretty much the entire media, including Fox) thought that she was the fashion Christ, here to bring upon this the One True Look.

I'm not seeing it. She wears dresses, wooo wooo wooo.

Edit: and of course I forgot a poll. Mods, could you add "I do not care" and "I do care"?

I usually don't care. I hated this Cindy McCain outfit:

Just way too much with the collar and what not. But in general they have to wear something really wild for me to notice. I haven't noticed anything Michelle has worn and can't recall any of her outfits like I can this Cindy McCain get up.

Yeah, she did have the whole Disney villain thing going for a good chunk of the campaign.
