Do you agree with the following quote by Aristotle?

"It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it."

I put up an "Other" option, just so people don't whine, but I still don't see why it is needed sometimes.

    Surely.
I was once very much like Obama.
I expereinced the world and ended up embracing what I once did not believe.
My world view matured based on worldwide experience.
    Obama's world view hasn't.

I do not believe he is open minded in the least.

    Your sig:

    Quote:
Conservatives are just people who cling to the "beliefs" that have been dictated to them as children.

    Grow up.
    I wasn't taught to be a conservative.
    I evolved into one.
Politics weren't discussed much, close to not at all at home.
My folks voted for the left; though they never let me know who they voted for as I was growing up.
The values they instilled in me were consistent with Conservatism.
They lived according to Conservative principles.

    Damn I was blessed.

I said "other" because I agree with part of it. It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought, sure, but I think that this mind must be perfectly willing to accept it, even if in the end it does not (this may be what the quote implies, but I just don't like the wording).

I think the point of the quote is to reflect upon it without accepting it. I think it makes perfect sense.

    Other for me, of course.
The translation may not be correct...that so many place so much trust and faith in translated works (Koran, Bible, ect)...this is not good....
IMO, mature or educated have nothing to do with this..
And, the works of Aristotle should be studied and discussed...but better in the original Greek...
