Should the UAE be banned from hosting international sporting events?

Should the UAE be banned from hosting international sporting events?

You can't ban a country from hosting international sporting events. Sports bodies can ban their athletes from going. But they can't ban a country from hosting international sporting events.

Wrong.

The WTA has the authority to make sure that thier events are never hosted by a member of the UAE.

Wow. Second time you prove you can not comprehend what is written. The WTA can make sure their events aren't hosted by the UAE. But if the UAE decides to host it's own international event called 'Women's Tenis in the UAE' the WTA can only ban it's members from going. It can not ban the UAE from hosting it.

uhmmmmmm mmmm m ermmmm well

No. Sports transcends political b.s. and always will.

What say you?

Yes, I think that all international athletic associations should blacklist the UAE from here on until the Israeli tennis player gets a full apology and the UAE makes a pledge to honor all athletes if and when they get to host another event.

I think they should also send her a bouquet of flowers and some UAE chocolates.

Just saying.

Have you ever tried to get an Arab to apologize for anything? That alone is going to take an act of god.

Apologies just seem so insincere.
"Oh, btw lady, bout that whole 'you can't come and play, as we hold political grudges and post it on the cage circling our tennis courts' we were jay kaying"

How do you apologize for this, and how do you make it seem like you mean it.

The shame of apologizing to an Israeli before the entire international community would be galling to the UAE.

The apology and a pledge to prevent this from happening again would go a long way though.

Sure it does.

If they want to be racist, they do not deserve to be allowed the privilege of hosting an international sporting event.
Don't be silly..
Very few, if any, nations are "non-racist".
This is the 21st century, not the 30th...
UAE = United Arab Emirates
I can type this out, and am lazy...
you must be even lazier...:3oops:

No they shouldn't be "banned" from hosting international sporting events. I don't even see how they can be "banned". Is there some world wide Council of Sport that decides what sports organizations can have their events where?

However, I think that sports organizations should refuse to hold their events within the UAE unless the UAE promises to not ban the entrance of any of its participants and write penalties into the contract for the event should they end up doing it anyways. If they end up double crossing them and banning people anyways then that organization should never do business with the UAE again, whether they promise open entry or not.

The more advanced cultures have advanced into the 21st century..
Islam prefers the 6th centurty.....
The solution is for us to be more tolerant of the Arabs....no easy assignment be this...

I'm tolerant of them every time I get in a cab or pick up my dry cleaning.

I want you to apologize for making a generalization about Arabs.

I'm sorry I pointed out that Arabs are argumentative and stubborn. And I will apologize in advance for pointing out that they stand way too close to you when they are talking to you.

Someone's gonna call a fatwa on your head...

As long as they do it from far enough away that I don't have to smell their breath. I'm not fond of the stench of stale goat cheese, garlic, sand, and angst wafting from someone's mouth onto me.

No man's tolerance level is that great...:rofl
Seriously, the Islamics must work on improving the public image....and this applies to many if not all...men , tribes, "races", cultures, ect..

Yeah but hummus and pita is killer...admit it. We all have.

What say you?

I "get" where you're heading with the intention of the pole thread. Anyhow, the international condemntation of the UAE seems to have worked.

Five days after Shahar Peer was excluded from competing at the women's Dubai Championships, her fellow Israeli Andy Ram was given "special permission" by UAE authorities to play in the men's equivalent next week.

Following is a selection of what players and various officials said.

Women's Tennis Association chief Larry Scott: "I had been in touch with heads of several other sports and people in the Olympic movement and there was shock and dismay over this decision and real concern as to what the implications would be.

"I know certain organisations called for a sporting boycott or suspension of all sporting activities in the UAE until this policy was changed. So there were potential ramifications for all other sports."

Men's ATP Tour chief Adam Helfant: "No player, who qualifies to play an ATP World Tour event, should be denied their right to compete on the basis of ethnicity, nationality or religion and we are happy that the Dubai Tennis Championships and the UAE have shown that they share that view. The UAE government has made the right decision."
United Arab Emirates changed its policy of barring Israeli athletes from competing in the Gulf states on Thursday

Thank you for completely failing to understand my point.

Next, the UAE is governed by Sharia Law; therefore, unless their women want to play tennis is a full length gown and a burkha --- IT ISN'T GOING TO HAPPEN.

The WTA can prevent any of its events from being in the UAE that is what I was getting at.

Sorry you missed it.

I saw that article and I thought about it. While the UAE claims it will not re-offend I must say that I am skeptical.

Bias against women, jews, and non-islamics is a part of arab culture. I would love to believe the UAE would keep its word but I just do not believe they will.

That being said ... I am in favor of blacklisting the UAE for a period of years until they learn to keep their biases to themselves.
