Show me how this was city enforced policy or..... Thanks for the anecdotal.

Any discounts for the firemen? Didnt think so.

It wasn't a city enforced policy. It happened all the time though. And yes firemen got discounts too. And to tell you the truth I really did not mind a cop living next door to me even if it was an apartment for his mistress, gay lover or what ever else.

And this was before the 5 Borough law.

Whether or not it was city policy really does not matter. It did happen and still goes on.

You gonna throw a little fit?

Seriuosly? How old are you and where do you live. Id love to get a handle on your ignorance.

Are you going to explain why you think income taxes should be adjusted based on cost of living, when the government didn't force people to live in expensive cities?

If you have a choice between living in NYC or Buffalo and you pick NYC, that's perfectly fine. But don't expect the government to subsidize your choice by adjusting your income taxes to your cost of living, because YOU made the choice to live there.

Besides, if the government based tax rates on cost of living, then how would all the welfare queen red states survive with out all that money coming in from places like New York.

....if the tax cuts have expiration dates it seems to me like they were not meant to be permanent. So what's all the fussing for?

Right... so is the amount every American is going to pay, going up, or down....

Que: Cut -n- run take 5.........

Nope, watch me out liberal you with this populist sentiment.

Firefighters and cops, teachers, should be exempt from taxes........

Pay attention, because you see to be having difficulty with this.

What of the need for firefighters and cops in NYC? F em?

What is your position here?

Well, first of all, NYC *is* Liberalville.

irrellevant.

Second of all, the situation of a person who chooses to live in NYC is no different from the situation of a person who chooses to live in an enormous mansion. They get what they pay for, and they shouldn't expect to get preferential tax treatment just because they chose to live it up. The fact that a $100K per year salary doesn't go as far in NYC as it does in Detroit is irrelevant.

Really? again, how old are you? have you lived in the real world yet?

So a firefighter is like a Jay-z?

Care to back that crap up with y'know "facts"?

duh, just duh....

There are very few jobs that are entirely confined to one city. And if they happened to have one of those jobs, they could change jobs if they wanted to.

Ignorance is strong with you.....

Right... so is the amount every American is going to pay, going up, or down....

Every American doesn't pay taxes. Not even the majority do. So the amount of some Americans is going to go up. Whatever amount it goes up by. I'm fine with it. 3% isn't going to tighten up my ways of living in any way. If it did I'd have a lot of a hell more problems then taxes going up.

Fair enough, but that has nothing to do with cost of living adjustments.

The NYPD and FDNY can offer them higher salaries if there is a shortage of people willing to perform those jobs.

Yet with the bush tax cuts they all get a rebate. go figger.

Yeah but you a "young money millionaire"..... Are you the normal working class family living paycheck to paycheck in the bronx?

Doubtful, you seem much more suburban/rural to me. ;)

Since there is nothing resembling a coherent thought here, and just a long string of insults, I'll ignore it. ;)

Your kidding right?

If ever I heard a ms. America response this is it......

The market DOES NOT DICTATE when the government is in charge......

The government. The LIBERAL BLOOMBERG government sets public servant salaries..... go ahead, and say this is not big nanny .gov's fault.

You get what you give. I am sorry your skirt is too tight....

i asked you to back up your nonsense with facts. You used my post as an out.... "noted" .....

This is spurious partisan nonsense. This says nothing of who the money is actually going to or to what purpose said money is being allocated.

The market still is the driving force behind government wages, even though it may not match up exactly with the private sector. If there is a shortage of people willing to perform a certain government job, more money will usually do the trick. Just like any other job.

Please to be showing me a real world example of your theory....... :doh:lol:

This is pretty basic economics. If more money encourages more people to become engineers for Microsoft, why wouldn't more money also encourage more people to become teachers for Chicago? Why would government employees be immune to caring about their salary? Supply and demand don't cease to exist just because the government is the one doling out the cash. And you sound like Fidel Castro when you try to argue to the contrary.

I never really got that either. How can you get tax cuts on taxes you don't pay?

Yeah but you a "young money millionaire"..... Are you the normal working class family living paycheck to paycheck in the bronx?

NOBODY living in any affordable and even the low violence part of the Bronx is living on paycheck to paycheck. And if they are they're probably not paying taxes as it is. I doubt you're talking about single black mothers in the projects. So who are you talking about exactly? Never mind that. Like I said. If 3% in extra taxes is going to destroy their way of living in the way you seem to think it is then they have bigger problems then taxes. They are living way beyond their means to start of from.

Doubtful, you seem much more suburban/rural to me. ;)

I'm not ashamed of having worked to the point where I don't need to live in a city to make a living.

You don't my friend. That is called "welfare"....

But thats what they call it.

I lived paycheck to paycheck for a while..... I ain't black and I aint a mother.... Damn me bucking the statistics......

What percentage of a fireman's pay is adequate for you to be taxed?

I'm not ashamed of having worked to the point where I don't need to live in a city to make a living.

Awesome. But let's tax the hell out of those who do live in a city......

Please to be showing me a real world example of your theory.......

I still do not see it.

I'm really not sure what you're asking me here. A real-world example that people want higher wages? A news article saying that people are drawn to a certain industry due to higher wages? What exactly are you looking for?

Like I said, this is pretty basic economics. Open any Econ 101 book and you'll see some variant of the idea that higher wages mean more people willing to supply their labor for a particular job. Just like any other commodity.

Here is an introduction to the idea:

Are we even talking about the same thing anymore?

.

Doesn't answer anything I said but ummm sure. Hey if 3% would have screwed you over you either weren't making enough or were living beyond your means.

What percentage of a fireman's pay is adequate for you to be taxed?

What percentage of a fireman's pay is taxed out as it is? The same as everybody elses? If yes. Why should they get life cheaper then the rest of us? What are they? Stereotypical Jews or something?

Awesome. But let's tax the hell out of those who do live in a city......

Not my fault or for that matter that of anybody who doesn't live in a major city if there are extra costs associated with living in a city. How about a little 'personal responsibility' for your actions? I keep hearing Libertarians and Conservatives using it. I don't have a sky scrapper outside my window but I wouldn't trade what I currently have for living in a city. Why? 1. The costs wouldn't justify it. 2. The costs wouldn't justify it. 3. The costs wouldn't justify it.

Nope real world example of any metropolitian area paying cops, firemen, teachers what they are worth... Pay attention...

How do you expect the .gov to pay these higher wages? face it when the government is involved we all lose.

yeah.... you fail and its not even funny anymore.
