Well, I'm still at school, and I always state my beliefs openly, and I've always gotten the top grade for writing formally, however, I got cited for racism for calling Africans "Chronically poor", and in a state of "Perpetual destitution and exploitation", both comments referred to the state of Africa's economy and the effects of colonialism on Africa's economy.

I've tried arguing with my teacher, but he still cited me for racism, but I want to ask you, are those comments REALLY RACIST?

I see nothing racist in them.

Oh yes, I am truly sorry if I have offended anyone reading this.

It is clear your teacher should not be teaching anything.

Are you going to get into trouble with your school?

No, they are not racist. Your teacher is obviously just another educated liberal dummy hiding in a school because he's too ill equipped to compete in the real world.

On a personal note , I do not think that it is racist .. however .. the terms "Chronically " & " perpetual" that you have used do convey a predetermined mindset about that country in particular.. Perhaps that is why he might have mistaken your opinion to be racist in nature ..Let me give you an example that is pretty valid in India ....

Some of the "higher class" or the Aryan race in India .. typically tend to think the "lower class" or the Dravidian race as 'chronically' poor & backward .. and also in a state of 'perpetual' chaos ....... While this used to be true in the ancient time, one might consider this as just an opinion expressed in the open ..however ..if such a policy would be pursued right now ..It would definitely be termed as racist ...

Please do note that I am in no way defending that teacher ..I am merely putting out a scenario that might have appeared to your teacher .

Not racist at all. What would have been racist is if you had tired to blame their precarious situation on the color of their skin. Which you clearly didn't do. I think your teacher was either being overly PC or he doesn't understand the meaning of "racist." Calling someone "poor", "destitute" or "exploited" is most certainly not racist.

-- I've tried arguing with my teacher, but he still cited me for racism, but I want to ask you, are those comments REALLY RACIST? --

Did he explain why he thought the essay was racist?

Could you ask your parents for a formal explanation? I have a strong feeling the school won't reply as they would be providing evidence for the teacher's dismissal or at best, his need for urgent re-training.

You should say that "many " are poor and destitute. Clearly not all black Africans fit that description.

I've heard about (and personally experienced) example, after example, after example like this. The "pro-diversity" left, which already has a carefully crafted stranglehold on the flow of information in this country, shouldn't be citing anyone for racism, real or imagined-it's called the 1st Amendment...just ask these very same people when they're defending pedophiles, flag-burners, terrorists, and pornographers and you'll get an earful about how even ugly speech is a sacred right. Or, to use their own terminology from when they defend their "right" to abuse their position for partisan brainwashing, "academic freedom."

This is why there is a movement in this country for a student's bill of rights (imagine their reaction if we took it one step further and applied their racist Affirmative Action logic to academic diversity).

Ever heard about that case in Colorado where the girl was flunked out of a class for defying her professor's instructions to write a paper on why Bush is a war criminal, and instead writing one on why it was Saddam who was the war criminal? How about what happens to anyone in science departments who admits to having creationist views (even those who also accept evolution)? Or how about the "enlightened," "pro-tolerance" liberals who charged the stage, overturned the lecturn, and assaulted the Minute Man who came to speak about border security? Shouting down and assaulting conservatives like ignorant, emotional apes must be what liberals mean by "free exchange of ideas."

From my book:

I was once told in a writing class that I had to re-write a paper because my views on abortion were “wrong.” I was forced to watch Outfoxed for four separate Freshman-level classes, two of which had nothing to do with politics or the news media. Only once was anything involving the other side of the story even offered, and not even once was the propaganda flick’s wildly erroneous claims confronted or questioned. I also had a political science instructor who constantly emailed us petty, vicious anti-Sarah Palin talking points throughout Election 2008, on everything from her home town to her wardrobe. My freshman public speaking instructor also routinely peddled pro-Obama talking points and went on rants about how only oblivious, hysterical “elderly people” oppose legalizing marijuana while “those who live in reality” support it. It was everywhere you went. Just walking into a professor’s office meant navigating through a carnival of angry anti-conservative, anti-U.S. signs, cartoons, and propaganda.

Seriously, you need to go to the link below and report this obscenely biased BS...it's the only way it will ever be stopped. Consider how many months and how many tens of thousands of enraged emails it took to get Ward Churchill's college to even consider reviewing his tenure...as he taught his captive audience that 9/11 victims were as bad as the Nazis. Confrontation is the only thing that even puts a dent in the left's production rate at these completely unaccountable liberalism factories.

Accuracy in Academia

As with most things involving liberals, their logic on this exactly backwards. They identify racism (Affirmative Action) as equality and equality (being able to point out poverty regardless of who is being talked about) as racism.

I think you just made a blanket statement and he sees it as racist. Inherently I do not think it is, but it does sound like a generalization. For this reason it sounds bigoted, but not racist in my opinion.

What the hell is "cited for racism"?

Jess Jackson gave him a ticket.

Now he has to buy the next black person he sees a KFC Meal Bowl as penance.

OMG NCFY IS RACIST!

NASCAR only cares about race.

Since he's talking about the state of Africa's economy and people and not India, it wasn't racist. It is fact.

As others have stated, it wasn't accurate to use language that insinuates that all Africans are chronically poor rather than many are chronically poor. But that's sort of splitting hairs at this point. On the face of it I don't see any racism in your comments, but I have to say your lack of context has also sort of put me on Defcon 3. If I'm wrong I'll happily stand down.

Wouldn't it be more 'continentism' as opposed to 'racism' since their are all kinds of races in Africa? :doh Or is Africa now a race?

A top grade for writing ?
I guess the schools are becoming easier than they were in my day..

Racism in your remarks ?
Probably.
We must study man a lot more and learn why some "tribes" are more successful and why....
Simply making the observation is not racist; but then, why was it made ?
The Africans , compared to us, may be poor, but why ?
Is it climate, or their environment ?
Do they consider themselves to be "poor" ?

I'd converse with the teacher, ask him, why ?
Do research on "racism"....this word is probably over-used by the average joe...

it kind of depends how they were framed, but the way they've been presented here I don't think they're racist

I was thinking the same thing.

If it were worded: "The darkies are chronically poor and are in a state perpetual destitution and exploitation by the euro-honkies." I'd have to say the application of the term "Racist" would probably fit.

It's not racist its fact. When Africa was colonized the indigenous people and its resources were exploited by the colonial powers. Post-colonial Africa isn't much better since alot of the former colonies became Communist dictatorships right afterward. Then after the Soviet Union fell, alot of the Communist governments got overthrown but fight over resources and other things.

BTW: Was this a college class?

Well, it all depends on context; how did you support this statement? If you supported it by explaining the history of Africa as ravaged by European imperialism and Middle Eastern domination then it wouldn't be. If you basically said "they've always been poor and always will be because that's just how they are" then it would be.

Now that I've read through the thread, I see people have already said that.:doh

So what was the context?
