If the US unilaterally gave up her nukes...

... what other countries would follow suit?

Please state the reasons for you answer.

Re: If the US unilaterally gave up its nukes...

What incentive would any other country have to give up their nukes?

Option A. Be on the same playing field as the United States.

Option B. Be on a higher plane, giving a devastating advantage with little to no reprocussions (from the U.S. at least)

    None of the above.

None of those countries have their nukes solely because the US has nukes.

Hmmm. Depends more on Russia giving up its weapons. If the US and Russia disarmed the rest of the list would likely follow with the possible exception of India and Pakistan and maybe Israel.

    Because....?
Specifically, why would Pakistan give them up?
    India?
    North Korea?
    Iran?

Because a fair number on that list have it for deterrence against Russian nukes.

Pakistan and India would give them up if each other gave them up. They have the weapons primarily to serve against each other.

    North Korea?
    Iran?
These are a bit more difficult as both countries' regimes utilize them as a form of legitimizing power. They serve two roles: as a weapon and as why the regime should remain in power. So everyone else getting rid of their weapons likely wouldn't cause those two to disarm due to the the secondary role the weapons play in their society.

So, based on just the US giving up her nukes, your answer is 'none of the above'.

I can't say if Russia would react in kind. But if it did then a number of countries would follow. Under Uncle Boris they might disarm, but under KGB Putin, that's entirely a different story.

Nevertheless, the US really should push for global nuclear disarmament. Henry Kissinger's argument is quite valid as it makes US conventional forces in symmetrical warfare effectively hegemonic. Without the game changer of a nuke, the US military really has nothing to fear aside from getting bogged down in asymmetrical urban warfare.

Which is a huge reason why I doubt anyone (country) would follow through.

    The question begs:
If no one else will give them up, why should we?
