I made almost as much money from online poker as I did from my job last year.

It's a skill game, not a luck game.

    I can't. This is important.

Not when I have to pay increased taxes to deal with the spikes in crime, pollution, welfare, child neglect and a whole other host of social ills that inevitably follow legalized gambling.

Want to throw your life away? Sure.

Want to throw your life away and make everyone else pay for the damage? Hell No.

One could take your philosophy to the extreme and argue that any action that is detrimental to the welfare of the state should be illegal. The potential for abuse appears limitless.

And we could do the same to the opposite saying that everyone should be free to do anything and everyone else should pay for it.

    See above.

Gambling has a long list of social ills that always follow it wherever it goes. Crime always spikes. Child Neglect spikes. Welfare spikes. And they happen in relevant amounts.

Gambling is not the answer. If states want to allow it then those states should take responsibility for the social ills that follow. They can't have it and then cry about the **** storm that follows.

The problems of gambling are well known.

It sure hurts to see your friends from childhood grow up to be gambling addicts. Or drunks. It happens to good people.

But you can't outlaw everything like that because most people are able to enjoy in moderation.

    YES!

I love to gamble. Makes me mad too that it's illegal in Nebraska, especially when it's legal in Iowa and takes me under 10 minutes to go there and have some fun while funding their programs.

    Re: Gambling

Of course it should be legal, in moderation, there's nothing wrong with it. I do disagree with RightofCenter though, the Indians can do a lot to better their situation, the biggest of which is getting the hell off the damn reservation.
There is nothing demonstrably true that religion can provide the world that cannot be achieved more rationally through entirely secular means.

This idea sparked by Kandahar's Indian thread.
I live in Oregon, and now and then I go to an Indian Casino. they are all over Oregon.

I can legally gamble at the Dog track and Horse track already.

I was not aware that Gambling was illegal.
