Your point is valid regarding the hit against the tribes. I have no doubt they would feel the pinch as new casinos opened. I think it would level out though and still provide a lot of income as well as a lot more jobs for many other people.

We have casinos here, but they're all under the no smoking law and they can't have slots. Those are two big problems for a casino. If they were granted the same freedom that the tribal casinos have, I think it would be a good thing for a lot of people.

I'm hoping to see some changes on the ballot next time around.
Seriously though, the casinos not on reservations here have hardly any draw.

If I go to the Tulalip Casino on the Tulalip Reservation, I can smoke, play any game I want (As there are no restrictions) and that to me is a deal maker/breaker.

Gary and I are planning to go to the Tulalip next month for one night. When we go to the casino now, it's usually the Emerald Queen and for the same reasons you mentioned.....smoking, slots.

It's going to be fun to be able to spend the night at the casino and have a drink. A little mini vacation

    You live up north?

I would chat with her when I'm feeling particularly snarky, but I wouldn't ever call her on the phone.

    Everett.

I think it's funny though, Wall-Mart built on the reservation (Right next to the tulalip casino) instead of right across the freeway so it wouldnt have to pay taxes to the state... it instead just shares profit with the tribe.

Needless to say I Go to the wall-mart in Lynnwood/Everett instead

I think it's just like anything else in life, like alcohol.
Alcohol can be dangerously abused, and it turns families apart, and can incur severe damages. BUT...its still so called 'good' in 'moderation'...
Also, there is always that Surgeon warning.

I think if gambling places and casionos had some sort of contract or sign in the front that said that the " winning chances are small ['X' percent] and gambling is not devised to make $, but it is meant to have fun"

I don't know about all of the casinos but at the Emerald Queen there's a lot of signage on the inside of the bathroom stall door. It's one of two things:

If you or someone you know has a gambling problem, call #####

    and

If you or someone you know is being abused, call #######

I was surprised and happy to see that.

No. The social costs are exorbitant and it's effectively a tax on the dreams of the poor.

Plus Utah is kicking *** without it.
