Why are there thousands and thousands of people risking life and limb to get in here? People sneak out of Cuba, Mexico, Guatamala, Africa, etc to come here for a better life. Then tell me how many Americans are moving to Cuba, Mexico, Guatamala, Africa, etc. The Soviet Union had to put a wall up to keep people from leaving and shot those that tried. They obviously disagreed with your opinion.

Why do you assume that I have been talking about Americans wanting to live somewhere else?

If I wanted to live in one of those countries, I would. I like America, born and raised, bound to die... In America.

However, I would never pretend that my opinion holds more value than that of another nation. This arguement is flat out ridiculous, you won't admit that good life is subjective to opinion and that yours nor mine hold any ground with someone who differs.

It's cute how you think YOU know best for someone else.

    Well, it goes both ways...
We moved OUT of the USA to have a better life, and we now have it.

I agree and I disagree. Understanding that people's lives would be better off NOT living under a Stalin, Amin or Pol Pot and that living in the USA, France or Japan is better, is not a matter of opinion when we are talking about the average person. A person that is not gaining from some corrupt aspect, a normal person... well, that person will have a better, happier life (in general) than staying in their oppressive society.

Saying that a billion Muslim women would be happier staying in their oppressive nations is ludicrous. We see that this is not true by the way that they are trying for reform and how they are trying to express themselves as best as they can with fashion and such.

I don't think that any reasonable person would say that it is for the USA, or me, to tell a fairly democratic country how it should be run. France, Japan, Spain, Brazil, etc are all fine and the little differences are no biggy. My main point is that, logically, your argument does not hold water when we talk about extreme situation.

Can some guy living out in Siberia be perfectly happy living in Stalinist Russia back in the day? Sure. I would bet that people that didn't care, or loved it were either left alone our the prospered to a degree, and that is obviously not how it was for most, or else the system would not have collapsed, it would have prospered.

It's not my opinion that people are risking life and limb to get into here from other countries. It's a fact and the truth. It's also not my opinion that people who have lived under dictators and communism hated it and love America.

If you don't want to think that is a fact and the truth then go right ahead. I prefer to live in reality.

I know that happens. It's a lot more rare though, and I doubt you moved to a country under a dictatorship or communism.

Correct. I understand your point, and we would not have moved to a place that was not great. That is not saying that they USA is not great, it just didn't suit us at present. There are only some countries that I would even think about living in; Canada, the USA, Australia, France, Spain, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, New Zealand or Portugal.

I consider all of those to be far and beyond anything like a dictatorship, third world country or a communist state.

I agree. We have even discussed moving to New Zealand. We live in eastern Washington near Idaho and Canada, just outside Spokane. Canada is only 100 miles away.

We're close to retiring and I think it will be a few miles further north of the Grand Coolie dam on the Columbia River. Beautiful country with plenty of good fishing and wildlife.

I was born in Oregon and we lived in Portland for a while. Used to go to Washington a lot. I knew a few guys from Spokane, they were hicks compared to our surfer lifestyle in Southern California (where I essentially grew up and lived for over 20 years.

Well, the place we moved to is New Zealand, actually.
We live on the north island in a little village right by the beach.
Surf everyday and we have rainforest hikes with waterfalls less than a mile away.

    Sounds pretty cool.

Actually, I'm from Minnesota. It's pretty balmy here compared to Minnesota.
