Can you show that 1. the engineer and not a control center operates the switches and 2 that the text was contributory to the crash? I am well aware that the media that story so as to make you believe the text message was at fault, but is there any actual evidence?

Unless there is evidence that the text message was contributory to the crash, this was nothing more than politicians covering their ass when their constituents demand the do something.

Wow, a 4 word text was sent before the crash. You show coincidence only, not causation.

If the text message was significantly long, or if it were shown that the engineer was sending out many texts over several minutes prior to the crash, I might be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to the allegation.

However, all you've shown so far is a single short message.

When ever I drive to my mother-n-laws house which is 60 miles from where I live I normally see 1-3. Use to go there every other week at least. Thankfully the amount of times we've been going has been alot less lately....Not to say that I dislike my mom-n-law because I actually do like her. I just hate driving and my wife doesn't have her drivers license.

The problem here is that you would need to eliminate so many other things. No radio while driving. No conversations with passengers while driving. No driving while you are tired (studies show that extreme exhaustion is just as bad as driving while intoxicated). To me, anything that takes your hands off the wheel should be grounds for a violation. Anything else, no.
This is the reason why I am against any ban...We simply do not have people with tolerance, with sense.....too many are safety nazis..
As we now have "hands free" ,any regulation would be silly.

    Re: Cell Phone while driving

I really hate people who talk on cell phones and drive, but I don't support a new law against it. The police can pull us over for enough things already.
You know the time is right to take control, we gotta take offense against the status quo

Could be an asian thing. We have the same problem in the Philippines. Lots of Filipino's like motor bikes. 125 cc types. Very common to see these folks tooling down the road steering with one hand and texting with other. Not even looking at the road. Highest traffic fatalities in the Philippines is motor bikes.

Of course just driving in the Phillipines is a bit risky compared to countries like the US where more stringent driving laws are enforced. Driving in the Philippines is a bit like just point and go.
