Do you think the IDF could get rid of the Hamas with it ground offensive? Why/why not?

What's going to happen according to you?

Israel will progress into Gaza further than just stopping the rockets in the open areas. It will substain alot of Soldier casulties possibly deaths, Civilian deaths will also increase.

Ah I should have said "The raid will make Hamas gain more support and may even cause an intifada" as the third option

So that you have
1) Israel wins
2) Ex aequo
3) Hamas wins
4) other

Israel is going to lose a handful of soldiers, smear several times as many Hamas fighters, and many civilians will die on both sides. The rocket attacks will stop for awhile as Hamas reorganizes and rearms, and then the war will continue as it has been for decades.

I voted other...

Israel will plunge deep into Gaza, wipe out a bunch of Hamas, prehaps to the point that the rocket attacks stop, and then they will face intense international pressure to withdraw before Hamas can absolutley be crushed, which will give Hamas the ability to reorganize and re-arm and this whole fiasco will play itself out again in a few years.

I wish that wasn't the case, but thats probably what will happen. Because they won't be allowed to remove Hamas from the equation, the cycle will continue.

How do you think they could "crush" the Hamas? It does not look very organized, it's not because you kill the "head" that the members stop fighting or surrender!

On the contrary, by entering Gaza, the IDF shows the Palestinians that Hamas is right when it says that Israel is a threat to them

I think the only way to "wipe out" Hamas (and any successor) is to commit complete genocide, which would make Israel worthy of a "wipe out" as well.

Secularism is the solution for the region, not more violence. When people stop bickering over who's god is the celestial real estate broker, then you'll see an end to this conflict that goes back for centuries.

So, the only way to avert genocide in the region is to forcibly eradicate the cultural values of the people living there? How exactly is that better than genocide in the first place?

I'm leaning somewhere between the second and third options. I'd be surpised if they totally wipe out Hamas and if they do, some other group will pop up eventually to replace it.

The conflict will eventually stop. No war has ever lasted for ever. There's no need to forcibly change the local culture, things will settle down at some point in time. I hope to see it in my lifetime, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. At this point, unless one side completely gives up, I see no acceptable solutions to this conflict.

Hamas has zero intrest in peace. If Israel does not eliminate all of Hamas and anyone who sympathizes with Hamas this will continue. Israel will unfortunatly bend to international pressure and will withdraw. Hamas will rearm and recruit new members. Iran will continue to support Hamas and Hezbollah. Eventually Iran will supply Hamas and Hezbollah with TNW's small (Tactical Nuclear Weapons) desighned to be used in a battlefield. Then Iran and much of the Arab world will have accomplished there goal. The destruction of Israel and its people. That IMO is why Israel must completely destroy Hamas and then Hezbollah and any other organization or country thats ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel.

Sounds pretty radical dosn't it? Well thats exactly what Israel is surrounded by, radicals. Enemies that pray to Allah that the day will come when the Zionist regime will be destroyed. Israel has showed much restraint for it is like a cornered Lion. This is about self preservation at this point and its time to follow the old Jewish saying.

If Someone Comes to Kill You, Rise Up and Kill Him First

If you hold your breath, your chance of seeing it in your lifetime would be significantly reduced.

Why cant it be either or for once? Israel have to decide, one time for all. Are they going in wholeheartedly or just raiding(stalemate) like always? If they do they will be condemned, if they do not the intolerable situation will go on forever..

You kill as many of them as it takes for them to either be completely destroyed, or they sign an unconditional surrender. Since I doubt Hamas is willing to "surrender" to Israel, only their complete destruction would suffice. Sure people could still claim to be Hamas in the future, but some people claim to be Nazis to this day. The difference is, they have no power and are marginalized and held in contempt by the cultures they reside in. But this could not happen until Nazis were removed from power. Hating Nazis while they rolled across Europe didn't do any good. Having contempt for them, while they held power saved no lives.

Do you believe Hamas is right when they tell their populace that Israel is a threat to them? Do you believe, that if Hamas were magically removed from the equation, that Israel would be throwing airstrikes and ground incursions into Palestine just because? What Hamas is doing, is straight out lying. Israel is indeed a threat to Hamas, and when they fire at Hamas, Hamas hides behind their people and claim Israel is being aggressive towards Palestinians. Do you by into their lies as well?

And to your second point, if Israel allows Hamas to continue to fire rockets into its country with no recourse or action taken against Hamas, and then to agree to negotiations with them, it only serves to embolden and invite future attacks when Hamas wants more. It legitimizes their tactics.

Who said anything about "the only way to avert genocide"?

Do you regard secularism as the "forced eradication of cultural values"? If you regard the notion that the world must be placed under sharia law for example as a "cultural value" then yes.

Unconditional surrender of the Palestinian/Hamas Terrorist State is not going to happen. Queen NOOR, and the rest of the fecal encephalitic morons or inhuman Satanic “liberal” monsters, will push for a cease-fire to give Hamas a chance to be seen as providing the so-called Palestinians the good life.

All a fat old Israeli General can do is lament they did not kill Arafat...

If you see the Secretary-General shaking hands with a leader of Hezbollah or Hamas, if there is never any collateral damage trying to kill it Israel is not seeking peace. I saw an “it” on TV today, kill it and the CNN team too.

If only we made their life good, and the belly of their army marching full, the so-called Palestinians would stop choosing to support or be Black Stone Idolaters who talk to rocks and trees to find Jews to kill.

What makes Israel worthy to be destroyed just to end this once and for all is their “liberal” filth, that is the majority of their so-called civilization, that couldn‘t kill Arafat when it needed killing.

As long as “liberals” live, and Jews to, Hamas cannot be gotten rid of for sure.

A cease-fire will happen before the Geneva Convention parts involving occupation can take effect establishing order and favorable government, from international pressure that civilian disguised Hamas is thirsty and needs food, and the United Nations (of tyrants too) will once again prove to be ineffective unless the Obamanation was lying and Ali Abunimah and Mary Mitchell were right.

I think that this will only bolster HAMAS. This is another event which can be spun and used as a recruiting tool:

"They came in and attacked our mosques, the holiest of places that we pray to Allah."

Hamas and the Palestinians will only hear someone say, “the spanking was wrong.” Israel is a member of a divided household, where sparing the rod spoils the child and using it only make the brat think Israel is wrong.

I think one solution could be that Egypt(friends of the Palestinians) gave them a piece of land in the North of the Sinai peninsula. They don't need much space after all, and Egypt have plenty of space. The climate, the landscape and everything is the same there as the west bank and gaza..

Seems like one rational solution, and I am sure there are many seemingly rational solutions, but reason and logic does not always work well with hate, bigotry, racism, and religion. No need to mention anti-Semitism because Arabs cannot be anti-Semites. We have some land out West the Jews might like too. Some would say 1948 was a mistake, the Palestinians should have declared independence first and been recognized as a State by us First.

Israel is not getting the promised land, and if we the people of earth are smart the so-called “Palestinians” will get less than back to the Green Line and no right of return. They both must prove they can live in peace, or we should by law forbid any of their kind from ever visiting any space colony where they could pop the bubble. Why should a nice elderly guy like you have his butt probed for a salami bomb, before boarding the spacecraft, due to an ongoing Palestinian/Israeli problem? What is rational is not always moral, and morality depends upon the observer.

Arabs/Palestinians can be Black Stone Idolaters who talk to rocks and trees, which we are supposed to respect is a rational thing to do. I can accept an invisible God by faith, but I am not talking to no rock or making it part of my faith. Moslems thought Catholics were exceeding the limits with the trinity and all those recycled Mary/Venus statues, mixing them up with unbelievers, pagans, and idolaters, while Islam was ignoring how a “prophet” said to pray (which made sense he would be all knowing and not like Satanic paranoia bread of not getting up fast enough from mechanized prayer to be seen of men), which fits with Moslems talking to rocks and trees. Rational is a more simple sentence, but reason does not fit the breathlessness of this ongoing insanity.

Israel going back to the Green Line seems rational and logical too. It is so easy to tell Israel to quit the occupation, any idiot can say it. Israel was already there, and it was not good enough. The PLO predates the Green Line. Pictures of Jews given access to their Temple Wall, in compliance with international law, only happened through war, which was all after the UN peacekeepers were withdrawn from Egypt knowing war would happen. Going even further back to the borders of 1948, according to the partition, with more than up to the Green Line for Palestinians, was not good enough for Islamifascism and their “Christian” dogs (with the tiny politically correct door to “humble” Christians {something unknown to Christianity, hell you can see the door was bigger}, as it was not to keep humiliating riders out), that is why we have the phrase “right of return.” Sorry, I did it again, I am breathless with this idiocy. A partition more generous to the so-called “Palestinians” was not good enough, when they could have had it.

In essence the aggressors want to return to the borders that existed before they aggressed, then they claim they will be happy and at peace.

Wanna make a bet? I'll bet less than 10 Israeli soldiers are killed.

I disagree. It's all going to be about who owns the land. Even without the religious divide the Palestinians will still want their own country and Israel still won't want to give it to them.

While I don't think it is possible to eliminate Hamas directly through conventional warfare, the Ground Invasion is the only move that could lead to the downfall of Hamas. An occupation of Gaza with stress on security/policing instead of demolishing of infrastructure would foster moderate voices to come forward. It is the moderate voice of Gaza that will lead to the downfall of Hamas.

For those that don't believe such a voice exists, consider the inner party assassinations and violence when Hamas and Fatah were in the same political system. The moderate voices do exist, they're just being suppressed by Hamas with no outside support.
