Guess what? This very thing was mentioned on the TV news last night.

I say HELL NO !!!!! It is not only very expensive to implement; it is also an intolerable invasion of privacy. If anybody ever proposes this in your state, call the ACLU immediately.

Also mentioned was a gas tax increase and more toll booths.

If road taxes must be increased, the best, most effective, and simplest option is to raise fuel taxes.

Of course, I don't support any increase. Almost every day, I see road projects being done that are totally unnecessary, or at least excessive.

So the bottom line is: Keep the roads in good shape, but DO NOT keep building grandiose projects that condemn people's homes, consume our farmland, and keep costing and costing billions and billions of dollars to construct and maintain.

The government better pay for my driveway repairs if this happens and pave the 3.1 mile, unpaved road to my house, too.

there is no way that this will ever be done.....just because it is some politician has a stupid idea is no reason for him to be listened to...

What? Politicians have stupid ideas every day that are enacted into law. ;)

Ok, so we’re not talking about needing to fund new infrastructure.

Why does gas consumption need to go down? The alternative is more of our money going to Islamic governments and a yet larger balance of trade deficit. So, its economic and national security

If you're going to respond with an environmental answer, then since I'm closed to those arguments please simply indicate such and spend your time preparing a sandwich ;)

IMO, the environment has nothing to do with this.., its 98% economics..
The gasoline tax must be increase, and this should happened over ten years ago, maybe more..
Another lousy idea that was tried, a long time ago was private ownership of some toll roads...the Vanderbilt Parkway in Long Island for one..

GPS units are very expensive

Don't worry.

The State will create a new tax to help you pay for it. It'll cost you twice more, that way.

Maybe.....maybe...hey, this is a great idea....how about if the states spend gasoline tax money ONLY on roads? Isn't that a strange idea?

how about not adding more taxes at all? Isn't that a stranger idea?

I was just saying that the government should stop lying to the people and start obeying it's own laws.

California passed a ballot proposition commanding the state to spending collected gasoline taxes solely on road related projects.

For some strange reason, two years later,...California again voted on a ballot proposition commanding the state to restrict spending of collected gasoline taxes to road related projects.

Funny, but the voters didn't demand the politicians be put in jail for breaking the first law, but they didn't. Voters are damn stupid people. It's how we get stuck with the Bushes and Obamas of the world.

true, but this is extra stupid. I have a truck that sits in the garage most of the time, are they going to make me pay to put a monitor in it?

What I'd like to know is how are they going to know if you have a GPS installed or not? You don't have to own a car to get a DL. You can have a car and a DL but not drive anywhere. How are they going to stop a person from just taking a GPS out of a car?

In otherwords how are they going to enforce this law? Are they going to give every cop a GPS locator and require them to check the car every single time they stop one? What about those people that never get stopped?

Hmm...Yeah sure lets go to GPS road milage tax and get rid of gas tax!!!!! /sarc

Can't answer the poll because one of the choices was not "HELL NO!!".

Obama nixed that legislation.

This thread is moot.

I think Gov. Ted Kulongoski should be GPS’d and taxed only.
Oregon should rally and throw this bum out of office.
The answer to this type of tyranny is 1776.
