With the billions of dollars being made in online poker, (despite any national laws against it - the world is now flat), should the government just concede this battle and use the situation to its advantage? It could collect the revenues from this and lower the deficit/taxes. Would you be against Obama using these revenues to fund universal health care? Why, or why not? Discuss.

Why not? Tax em and tax em good.

Do you not already have to pay some portion of your winnings? Aren't all winnings from gambling covered under something-or-other?

If I'm wrong about that, then yes, let's tax that ****.

It's illegal to partake in online gambling (sports, poker, anything) in the U.S., so the winnings aren't reported by anyone. (Come to think of it, all of that type of online gambling should come under government control.)

The thing is that public companies aren't taking U.S. customers while private ones are.

I voted no. They should legalize and tax it, sure. They should definitely not 'take it over' though. Just because we've had fits of socialism recently doesn't mean I want the online equivalent of a Federal Casino. I took a class on gambling and its effects on the places that legalize it, and online gambling is really the best way for gambling to be implemented. The problems with property values, tax dependency, and cannibalization of local businesses are minimized, and those are really the worst problems that are seen in places with legal gambling

Good point. I didn't consider the proposal closely enough.

I think it was in the 90's the feds took over the Mustang Ranch whorehouse they couldn't run that, they sure as hell can't run our government now,so why give these cheesedicks any more money now.

I don't see how it's any of government's business. Why should they take over? Because they get to fleece people instead of someone else? Bah. This isn't the place of government, let private business have it.
