I've been pulled over for driving while white.

First, you're going to have to explain the situation. I highly doubt that you got pulled over because you're white.

Second, even if you did, it's almost unheard of to be pulled over for "being white". It's not even comparable.

I was driving on the west side of chicago at night. I got pulled over becuase the cop thought I was buying drugs. It's not all that unheard of round these parts. It's racial profiling as they figure the only honkies driving around that area at night are buying drugs. I wasn't by the way. I had just dropped off a freind from a party we were at.

Ever thought about contrasting that with the kind of attention locals get for being suspected of selling drugs?
Not to take away from your experiance or anything. Thatd grow mad tiresome hapening where you live. Like you aint allowed to live there if ur not a junkie cause ur white. But just to put it in a little perspective. U get treated like a potential user. Black males in the same comunity as you got pulled over in probably get treated as dangerous and hardened criminals.

I think I know what id rather get profiled as, my brother of ivory persuasion (first I took the word 'cracker' back, and now im workin on the euphamisms. Ohhh yeahhh.)

I never denied that it is far worse for the denizens of that particular neighborhood being profiled as something based entirely on their skin-tone. Its total bull****. That being said, being pulled over for being white does actually exist. That was the only point I was making.

P.S. I'm cool with being called a cracker, honkey, wonderbread, or any other honkadelic epitaph that someone can come up with. I've been known to call myself Count Honkula from time to time. It's my rapper name ;)

All good. Your point is valid, and worth bringing to the attention of people who are unaware that such forms of profiling also exist. I can find no fault in your reason here, and didnt mean to sound like it was an attack.

As for being called cracker, I dont mind being called it by white people. Or by non whites with whom im quite close who use it warmly. But if a non white calls me a cracker with venom, im taking offense. I presume less than most black men would, as Its not such a raw nerve (i dont fear anti white racism and I am not particularly insecure in my ethnicity <altho my countrymen do make me wonder at time>). But I will take offense.

I dont mind a white man that is being a racist getting called a cracker tho.
But thats cause thats what cracker means. A racist white. I just dont think its fair to be calling someone a racist white based on skin color in an offensive way. Also, because I believe that if you allow people to disrespect you so, they will not take you seriously. So when I tell the biggest black man in the room that calls me a cracker that I dont apreciate that racist ****, I am sending a clear message. I demand your respect and will not be punked quietly. It is no diferant to when he suggest I let him win the game of pool, and procede to play better than I have all night. People will test you. And if you let them, theyll take advantage of percieved weekness or tolerance for disrespect.

Racism in general is easy to understand, it's simply fear of anything that's different. It's the same idea that we get a lot of "isms" from, like nationalism, sexism, etc. The concept of "I, and anyone like me, are good and anyone different is bad" is far too common in humanity.

I suffer from severe Midgetism. Those little bastards are only half the people that normal people are. :shock:

Listening to Obama's recitation of "Dreams from my Father", I began thinking about where racism comes from. Thusfar, all I have heard in popular culture is that "racism is ignorant/stupid". That statement does not explain where it comes from, only an opinion on its existence.

So where does it come from?

I believe racism comes from an unfortunate natural instinct humans have to not trust anyone or anything different than ourselves. At least until we are put at ease to have trust.

Sounds barbaric but I believe it is simply an instinct in which evelution needs a little more time to change.

I have a suspicion that racism exists as a vestigial instinct.

Think of early nomadic human tribes. When encountering a different tribe, an instinct to avoid strangers that look different, might well be a way to avoid the spreading of contagion. (Note that we tend to have an aversion to the visibly sick as well.)

In a time when there was little racial diversity, the mechanism would probably work well. The strangers probably would look different if they were substantially more or less healthy, so an aversion instinct would discourage contact.

Now, there are many more factors that provide for diverse appearances, and such an instinct might well manifest as irrational aversion to "the Other."

Racism comes from people who were born without balls.

No, Cephus, what you describe is called Xenophobia.

Racism is a product of ignorance.

Race one of the easiest Master Status to identify with, easier then sex, even.

Contrary to moral relativist premises, every healthy human has the same basic needs, and one of those needs is to be a part of a community. For those who are unable to acquire-and-keep normal familial relations, or who have had these normal relations replaced with, say, gang relations since their childhood, siding up with your own race is the easiest way into a social group.

Race is the easiest way to belong due to the various status symbols race commonly provides:
  • Skin, hair and eye color;
  • Body types;
  • Mannerisms such as style of speech and posture;
  • Common ancestry.

An indivigual looking to belong to a group is most often atracted to the group where he already shares many things in common.

This is not an exhaustive list and there are exceptions, but this give a general idea of the appeal of race.
